BREEDING CHAMPION ROLLERS:

Step 1: Start with the best high velocity performing cock bird you can get.

Step 2: Pair it with a good spinning hen with stability; (preferably the same family).
Step 3: Produce many hens from this pair and fly them out

Step 4: Pick the best hen and pair it back to its father

Step 5: Repeat step 3-4-5

NOTE: Understand what a good Birmingham Roller is. Read as much data and archived notes regarding successful breeding programs of top breeders and flyers.

...also

It would be a good idea to invest in your own personal resource library of roller pigeon doctrines, analytic genetic research material and informative food/health books.

ok. but what happens when you breed the best cock for a couple of rounds and before the squeeks mature the cock escapes and gets chaced off, and havent been able to breed back into the father, thats where i am now

my fastest cock was blurring out my fastest hen's speed was awsome, after he escaped i checked my paperwork and they were from the same father, different mothers.

in mating these two together im afraid i have produced their father not themselves.i have 5 squeeks from him from 3 diferent hens, only one is mature and rolls 30-40ft good speed and quality

i also have uncles from the grand father that have been stocked.the grandfather is long dead he did produce birds better than he was by a long shot, that is why i wouldnt want the grand father to be reproduced back

Roller,
In my opinion you should try to keep the blood as close as is possible within the remaining birds you like the best. Since the main cock and hen were half bro/sis, you could probably use any of his sons, maybe one of the uncles would work too... Use your best judgement in selecting the mate based not just on how they roll, but on how they handle..and their temperment, etc.
Sounds like the grandfather was a very good producer.
I would think that you should want him to be reproduced.

Marcus, I wish it was that easy. Might work some of the time. No guarantees in breeding these birds.
roller alley, I think you are on the right track with your program. Often it takes 3 or 4 years to realize how good a bird or a pair might really. Anybody who has been doing this for anytime has lost, sold or given away birds they wish they had back when they discovered their potential. I understand Pensom bredout of 514 for several years before he really understood what he had.

Roller,
So you are going 3/4 with the hen... Sounds good. Seems that you have time to wait on the sons of the one you lost, I guess. Just keep them close, I'd say, till you get real consistancy... and have fun...
