Hey guys I just got back in the hobby July of 2008. I purchased my first four birds from a feed store in San Pablo Ca called Sunnyside feed on Rimfill ave. I flew these birds 6 days a week from August to November 8th then bop shut me down. I'm not an expert on these rollers and still learning certain traits etc. maybe my expectation are low right now but these birds are some pretty good rollers to come from a feed store. when I flew them they kit really well with the rest of my kit which consist of ( Ruby's and RK pairs) with the exception of two of them that are show off. 3 of them are pretty deep with some serious volocity really tight from my perpective good performers to me yet what's a prize to one may be trash to another. I'd like to know if anyone can give me some history on these birds? I'm not good with color discriptions but here goes as well as the band numbers Black self pair. cock banded NCRC#2477/07 hen banded NCRC#1245/07 both depth about 20 feet tight with good form and serious volocity. The hen wasn't consistant in her spin. as the cock though like she was hesitant when other birds were underneath her. I lost the hen to a cooper In November.I still have the cock but he has some kitting issues likes to fly really high for the first 20mins before setteling with the rest of the kit for the next 25 mins White red speckle cock banded # NRCR#918/08. Really good roller depth about 20 feet serious volocity really good form but had some kitting issues before i lock down somewhat like the black self cock. (show off likes to fly by himself at time disappears then reappears. fly extremely hign for the first 20 mins then comes down and kits with the rest of the birds. yellow white flight hen banded NCRC#980/08. Kits really well nice spin and volocity depth maybe 10 feet before lock down. Only thing I notice with her before lock down the kit was coming down maybe up 50 feet and she went into her spin and bumped the roof of my house. She only did that once. I'm not interested in roll downs. I'd appreciated if someone has some history on these birds who they came from and what family. also why were they in the feed store. I don't want to wate any time with these birds if they have some issues but what i've seen thus far isn't that terrible. I will start flying again in March and see what's going on with them after being locked down for 4 months. Thanks ---------- ~~~~~~butch

I'm feeling I may have to cull them both. gonna fly them again once the hawks thin out and give them a bit more time if they continue to do their own thing they will not work for what I'm trying to accomplish. ---------- ~~~~~~butch

Butch, are you sure you have ncrc bands and not nbrc. well anyway you need to contact Miguel Gonzales and he can tell you who bought the bands and you will have to ask the guy who bred them. WHo is RK rollers? You might want to look into the next roller show the NCRC is having and meet the local guys and maybe join the local club. It has aprx 75 memberw with about 15 that fly in comps. We have a monthly bulletin about club news and events. Good luck Bill C

Thanks Bill they are NCRC band not NBRC bands I'm a member of the NBRC and all my hatches carry the NBRC band. RK pairs are birds I found on the internet a guy that's in Tennessee called RK pairs roller ranch. I purchased 10 of his bird no peds on them like the Ruby's I have. They are ok there's about 5 of the 10 that were performing really nice. I've only flew them from mid August 2008 until I locked down first week in November. I will start flying them again In the spring to see if they meet my expectation if not I will just concentrate on the 6 Ruby hens and 6 Ruby cocks squeakers I purchased from Tony last year and see if i can match up from them and come up with some nice young for next year. ---------- ~~~~~~butch

I disagree with mr.b.j. It is better for you to lock them up. They will continue right where they left off. They still come into the roll even if they were not rolling much or at all. But mr bj has a good point if they did not get to fly much. As long as they flew for a few months or at least were kitting good it will help them to get back with the program when you let them out again. You will lose your best rollers and only have the flat flyers if you fly with BOP. Its just not worth it. They go after those small birds that roll a lot. Its always those performing they take first. Good luck with your new birds Newbie08. Bill C

Thanks for the input guys to mr b.j to answer your first question I'm in northern ca. Solano county Fairfield betwen Vallejo and Sacramento. second question. Right now I have 26 birds 17 of which were about 3 to 4 months old when I first start flying them in August 2008. I flew them 6 days a week for about 3 months until I lock down first week in Novemeber. All 17 were into there rolls some better then others all were rolling at least 5 feets some deeper.8 My deepest were rollng about 15 feet all 08 birds. They were kitting really well and flying at least 30 to 45 mins. once they land on my roof I call them in and they were in the loft no more than 3 to 5mins after landing consistantly. Since lock down I have purchased 9 more Ruby squeakers 5 cocks and 4 hens and they have yet to get in the air. Since I have the peds on them and really pleased with Tony's bloodline I may not even fly these they may have some kitting issues since they will be at least 5 to 6 months old in March when I decide to test the waters and they have not been in the air yet. I may just breed them and fly the young don't want to taske a chance with the BOP with them. I'm hoping the 17 that have flown already will pick up where they left off and continue to develope in the roll when I turn them loose again in a couple of months. ---------- ~~~~~~butch

Out of the 17 I've flown they have paired up and started producing eggs since lock down. 8 pairs 4 pairs in which I like the match up. from these 8 pairs Right now I have 6 Squeakers that are almost 4 weeks old and by the end of next week the remaining pairs eggs should be hatched. I've already started to seperate these pairs until I fly the young and see what's been produced from them. In March when I fly everything is going up in the air except my Ruby's so I can determine what keepers what's not. I don't want to hold more than 6 pairs 12 holdovers and a 20 25 bird A kit 40 to 50 bird max at one time ---------- ~~~~~~butch
