----------I purchased some 08 squeakers back in August 2008 from The Rk roller ranch in Tennessee. I'm just getting back into the roller hobby and found this breeder on the internet and thus far I have yet to meet anyone who is familar with this breeder.. I currently have Tony's Ruby rollers and some of these RK pairs as this breeder calls them. 9 Rk's squeakers and 12 of Tony's Ruby squeakers. I'm not really familar with breeders which all seem to say they have the best birds. I'm just starting back up I'm pretty impressed with the birds I have. I've flown all the RK pairs and 9 of the 12 Ruby's for at least 3 months before locking down in Novemeber due to the Bop. Tony provides predigrees with his squeakers which gives me much needed information about the birds I purchased where as RK pairs just says he has the best birmingham rollers. According to information on his website his birds are from the Bill Pensom line of birds. According to him When Bill passed his birds went to a guy name Howard McCully, when Howard passed his birds went to a guy by the name of Herb Sparks. According to the guy at RK pairs his birds come from these birds?? Can anyone confrim these breeders with the exception of Bill?? Like I said from what I've seen from the birds in the 3 months flying them they appeared to be some good rollers. I will finish flying them out starting in March and determine if they actually fit my criteria. Just want to confirm some kind of history on these birds.
Thanks ~~~~~~butch

I believe that Howard McCully lived to Close to Pensom and had birds from Pensom directly. As for the rest of the story maybe the other guys can help. ---------- RT Williams

If they are nice to you that is all that matters but I am a good friend of Herb Sparkes and he is one of the best. The story is true about many of the main breeders going to Howard and then Herb. As far as those other birds being Herbs stock????????????????????????????????

Thanks RT and 3757. I like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. burn me once shame on you burn me twice shame on me !!! The guy seems to be pretty cool older guy been in the hobby for 40 years. I'm leaning towards taking his word far where he got his original birds from. Like I said I'm not familar at all with the old school breeders and I appreciate you guys input on part of this story in regards to Howard and Herb. Has anyone every heard of these birds RK pairs or RK roller ranch for that matter?? ---------- ~~~~~~butch

did he seem legit? I got 10 squeakers from him back in August 2008 they were a reasonable price told me not to let anyone know he gave them to me at the price he did cause he can't do it for everyone? Sort of made me believe he was dumping birds on me who's parents were so,so. His pairs or stock birds that he wants to get rid of at times are way too high to just go by his word. ---------- ~~~~~~butch

Thanks Iproller looks like I'm getting somewhere now that someone has heard of this guy. I mean I'm not interested in getting anymore from him. If what he says about his stock coming from Herb Sparks and 3757 confirming Herb is one of the best. I will fly the hell out of them and see what they have in them.If they develope better than they were the 3 months I flew them between the best of them and the Ruby's I have I think I can come up with something that soothe me until something better comes along. wanting to breed birds 20 to 30 foot tight spin good volocity and intelligent. I've seen these characteristics in a few of them as well as Tony's Ruby's. Don't really need the 40, 50, 60 etc footers right now unless the whole kit is doing it. I'm starting out slow and consistant and plan to be in it to win it and reach my goal. ---------- ~~~~~~butch

I visited his site,he is a charactor, thats for sure (as is his reputation), as for the birds that he is talking about (McCully) the line doesn't carry yellow or Almond so something is goofy there, plus I would be suspicious of someone that calls thier birds "the best on the planet" and referes to themselfs as "the master" reputations are made, not self given. Here is a little more history for you, when Sparks aquired the Mc Cully stock he brought them up to N Calif.,which are what are behind my birds and others here in Calif.

Oh for sure Alohazona I have 7 Ruby cocks and 5 hens definitely keeping that blood together. Although I have 4 Ruby hens and 4 Ruby cocks that I have not paired up as of yet. I did experiment with 2 Ruby's cocks and 1 hen that I paired up with 3 of the RK's that roll pretty nice. I will be flying the first round in a few weeks just to see what they produced. They are sitting on eggs again as of now. I think I'm going to let them go 1 more round. fly all the young and see if they are any good. If not nothing goes in the breeder cage except the Ruby's. ---------- ~~~~~~butch

I looked at this guys site and Scott is right he is a character of sorts. His birds are pretty impressive if what he says holds up. They sure look like top shelf from the pictures he has..I would be very interested in how those you got from him mature and fly out for you..

Well Mike when I purchased them in August they were all 08 squeakers maybe 3 months old I settled them for about three weeks and flew all of them. They started coming into their roll maybe the 3rd day I flew them I lost one of them which left me with 9. I would say the 3 months I flew them before I locked them down all of them were kitting really well and rolling. About 5 of them were rolling really nice at least 15 feet tight and with volocity I breeded all 5 of those 3 with Ruby's and 2 with NCRC that I purchased. From what I've seen thus far if they mature and get better the one's I purchased are pretty good and fit the criteria of what I'm trying to accomplish. ---------- ~~~~~~butch

Newbie! RK's birds are about 80% Ray Sanchez blood. He does cross the Sanches birds on Jacs and other birds. The quality you see in RK's loft comes from Ray. Ray is on this list. If you like the birds you got from RK. You should talk with Ray. He has the quality stock pure that put the roll in RK's loft. All that crap RK talks about is storys. Sorry to see new flyers get confused by huge tales of the best rollers in the world. He has only had the family he now has, a few years. Not 40 like he claims. Talk to Ray about the stock RK breeds from him. Ray has forgot more about those birds than RK knows. RK does have some good birds, but he is not being honest about what family they are. Those storys about Herb are pure BS. Just for your information. KGB

Kenny - I spoke with Herb about this. I even sent him photos of the pigeons from the internet. The phenotype of the birds I have from Herb are also different from the ones on the photos _k has posted.

Hey 3757, I hear Ya. I Know RK got a few birds from Herb a few years back. But had lost all but a hand full of them by the time he left missouri. RK lived with Ray Sanchez and helped him build his lofts for exchange for birds. I have known Ray since I was a kid. I could tell most of the pictures RK has on his site are from Rays stock. Like that black badge. That is a bird Ray bred that they call the OS cock. That is a great line of sanchez birds. The mealy bar's from Ray are birds Ray has had since I was a kid. RK does cross some of the famillies up, but most are Sanchez stock. Nothing bothers me more than to see a guy take another mans life time of work and not at least give him credit for the birds he got from him. Just isn't right to to steal another mans years and not at least say your birds go back to this line. We all got our birds from someone. Hell, we should try to give credit to those we have learned from in this breed. Hey, I might get to see some of your stock down here pretty soon. I talked to Bruce up in WA. If I remember right, he had some birds from you and RL. Soon as the weather gets better so the job gets stable again. I look foreward to the visit. KGB

Ken - Joe Hanson also fly's birds from me and Easley. He has done well in the fall fly. Bruce only has one of the Herb stock birds from me. The others are Bruce Cooper. I breed individual pens and have both families separated in different lofts. Each are banded with different bands also. I hope they put on a good show.

Wow!!! Thanks KGB that was real informative information on this RK guy. I must say at least 5 of the ten squeakers I purchased from him back in August 2008 turned out to be pretty good birds. I only flew them maybe 2 months about 30 to 40 times before i had to lock them down in November because of the BOP. Just last week I flew 5 of them and one Black griz that was only flipping before lock down really shocked me he did at least 20 feet great volocity and nice tight spin. Today I let a red check w/f up today that was doing about ten feet before lock down with two hens that were previously just flipping. Today I noticed the Red check spinning about 20 feet as well did something for the first time I didn't like coming off my roof to the loft about 10 feet high and rolled down to the backyard grass. I don't like roll downs and this is the first time this bird has done this out of at least 30 to 40 flights. maybe because he's been locked up for 3 months??? Anyway I'm glad to hear I have a name for the possible stock these birds came from. I will research a bit more into Ray Sanchez. I like to know the line of birds I'm working with. Again thanks so much. I agree that RK should be giving credit where credit is due and stop fantiscizing and hogging the credit. ---------- ~~~~~~Butch
