if you were to breed same color to the same color over and over, are they youngs going to lose frequency?

i was watching norm reeds interview and he said that.

so is this true?

I would not think so. If you selectively use birds that roll in your breeding program the young will retain the roll trait. Color can not affect that.
However if you selectively chose pairs because of a desired color (trait) you are bound to give up other traits (freguency of roll, style, depth etc)to attain that trait (color).
The old saying best(roll)to best (roll)Is true. color should be down on the list, for a compition team.

fou, boy do I need to get back to work. I am out of work until the rain stops. I have posted more today than any time. Anyway I will give you an idea of what I think.

Norm Reed is probably very accurate of what he said about his birds. He knows them better than anyone right. He is not a guy to BS right. But that does not mean that this is the case for every family of birds out there. People know certain traits that go well with their birds and those traits that degress in their birds.

For example: In the Jaconettes it is not uncommon to have grizzles in many birds. Jerry Higgins has some grizzle going in his birds. I don't know about Mr. Reed but you will hear guys say," the grizzle side has a lot of heat". That means grizzles can become very unstable if bred together for too long or two with a lot of white on them. But that is not the case for all family of birds. Some guys have said they breed grizzles together and never had a problem with it. I have a few Jac grizzles and they are definately the most unstable of brids I have but I like to fly them with the other birds because they have frequency and keep the kit active sometimes.

So you have to take what is said by that individuel and in context of his conversation. I would not question Reed on Reeds birds at all. But this is not the case with any rollers out there. Bill C

fresnobirdman....being a "rookie"... Why would "you" question a man of Norm Reeds integrity..??
It might be a good idea to do some homework first....

Actualy Paul that is how he will learn, because in reality it runs along family line's and if true accross the board myself and a few others would have a real problem, but the fact is it doesn't hold true.

Bill, Scott thanks for your comments. I know guys that breed black to black and get great birds I know a guy that says when he puts one of his blacks on a black he gets roll downs. so it is along the family lines some how.

Fresnobird, ask all the questions you want that is how you learn.

thanks scott, spinningdemon.

windjammer loft, the reason that i question norms theory is because count less roller fanciers have told me that color had nothing to do with the roll.

so i just wanted to get the mass majority's answer on this one.

If you start breeding for something else and not velocity, control, dept, and style you start to lose those traits...
