I have about 3 birds one of which is a good roller the other 2 are still learning how they are Young i have been flying when i can watch in the eve. and weekends all the other birds i fly with them trap very Quickly after a short fly to get to the food but these 3 seem to want to walk around on the ground picking at everything on ground ,they have grit and food avaiable but just want to hang out on the ground , iam worried this will carry over to kit!!!! ---------- One of the few Virginia ROLLER BOYS

Scare them off the ground fast so they don't developed bad habits get them to go to the top of kitbox and wait till the feed is almost gone and coach them in..this way they get little feed as possible and you watch tomorrow they will be the first one in..do not cull them the management is on your part .. they have to learn your the kitmaster and obey your command only.. they probably eating fast and more than the rest..or just dumb looking for feed on ground knowing there is feed inside..work them work them till you win them over..good luck.. ---------- Ralph

i had alott of those, every time you fly them you have to watch who comes to the ground, scare them as fast as you can so that they dont come to the ground, it takes some time before they stop doing it; it gets me very irritated when all they do is come to the ground for feed,
or you can just get a chihuahua to get them every time they get on the ground.

try flying the other two young ones in a seperate kit of younger birds if you can. if not add a bird one by one into the kit see if they keep on having bad habits or progress.-joe v.

its a cull. you control the birds not bird control you.if you dont get it sorted out your other birds will start doing the same thing so nip it in the bud.

Once they mature they will stop going to the ground. You can control their feed better when they are mature. Don't give up on them too soon.

Rollem, Feed your birds as soon as they trap. The three stragglers will not get to eat. Put them out again the next day, feed them as soon as they trap. After a couple of days of no food they will be trapping as quick as the rest.

Pararoller, so let me understand this, you culled them because they were smart enough to squeeze through some alum. bobs ? and who's fault is that ? ---------- Just my Opinion Scott

Rollem, sounds like you have food on the ground, if so clean it up, if not they just aren't hungry enough, either way it sounds like purely management or lack of. ---------- Just my Opinion Scott

Wow,that post is as nonsensical as the picture of all the dead pigeons. I think I might built a door over the trap or have figured out how to prevent them from getting out before I culled them!! I can't begin to tell you the rage that I feel right now. If I said what I want to say, Tony would boot me for sure. ---------- Keep em Spinning Joe

Pararoller I agree with Scott...Get a couple eyehooks and a rod so they cant get out..No need to cull smart birds unless they lack performance.

When the birds go to the ground, they are in search of grit/stones. Their body is telling them they need it. Give them plenty of grit and they will stop going to the ground as they mature.
The reason I don't want the birds to go to the ground due to the fear of BOPs and not to teach them to loiter around the loft and create nascence. Other than that pigeons are pigeons.

Pararoller Yea them bobs birds will get through them. And if you don't have a door on them things can get in. When i was kid i had a tom cat get in and there were dead and wounded birds everywhere. I grabbed that old cat and it was round 1. I bet i had that cat by the neck for 5 minutes. He went limp and i through him to the ground, as soon as he hit the ground he was up and over the fence. Me i looked like i had run back and fourth through a Barbed wire fence. I learned two things that day, always have a door on your traps and never try and strangle a cat. I use drop traps now birds cannot get out and the a cats can't get in, and all the traps have doors. Jim Bowen
