Mike, Chan seemed to have birds from quite a few places, those Blue Bars sure resemble the Nieble stuff in type and expression that me and Dwight Wallace was playing with,or at least the one in the very back does.
Last time I was there he had quite a few recent (80s) English stuff he was flying, looks like you have some of that also, those dark checkers look like the Kiser stuff.

Thanks Guys and yes Kevin they made it through this last cold snap..

Scott, these birds are pretty much all a like as far as body, shape etc... I have 20 some of them, the fellow I got them from has kept them pure since he got them. I too have heard Grover got birds from many places, I was also told he has a family of crests out there somewhere. So far I am pretty impressed with them, I will have to see what the air brings... It has been interesting to see the differences in each of the families. Anything you could share on Grover would be welcomed.

Not crests Mike, "peaks" the crests come from crossbreeding, the peaks you will find in paticular strains.
I think that your best bet would to be find out the band numbers of the originals and call Chan to get the scoop on the parantage and the families that they are from.

These last four are all out of the same parents..The two colored ones remind me of xmas tree decorations..Have to see if they make it in the air or become cat food.

You know Scott, over the years I have seen so many different Pensom families or so called anyway..Who knows what has been added and what has not to them anymore.. I will tell you that the 2 colored birds look more Pensom than the check/kite cocks..The colored two are hens, they are brothers and sisters. The color is andalusion dilute..We will see here in the next month what happens with them.

We must remember that there are no Pensoms left...I think he no longer breeds pigeons...LOL...any birds that are Pensom now...are not....like we all have posted in the past...once you breed a couple generations...they are now your birds....I can assure you that we are way past two generations on any Pensom based birds.

I think Paul and Scott are both right and in agreement here.

Paul is right that there are not any Pensom birds left with his name attached to them. Once you breed these birds they are yours. People use his name to sell birds or promote their birds as being what he had back them.

However, Scott is right that there is still the blood line going on today that came from the imports and the birds Pensom raised. There are guys who did not cross everything into their blood lines like McCully, Herb Sparks, Jay Starley, Ken Easley, Borges, Kiser and Mike Curtis ect.

Most rollers today have been crossed many times over and did not stay with a paticular blood line. Not that you cant cross birds, 514 was a total outcross and worked out great.

SO you are both right in my eyes. Bill

Xrollers yes they were on eggbid and did not sell. I got them with some other stuff fromm New England.

Opal or Andalusion? All I know is that they are ugly as sin..I will get the parentage on what remains down the road... As far as Pensoms go, unless we have pedigrees dating all the way back there is no 100% surety... So I guess we have proven right here that pedigrees can be beneficial..To tell you the truth of the matter I really dont care what they go back to, my only concern is how they perform from here on. Who knows, maybe in a month or two I will be telling Scott about "The Little Pink Pigeon That Can"...LOL

Hey Mike, as long as you are happy with them, that is all that counts. Fly the hell out of them and if the perform to standard then they were worth the money, right.

Hey Joe,

I'm not one to try and pick a bird by its appearance, but these Grover birds have me pumped a bit..Thats why I bought over 20 of them..I talked to the breeder and his references, everyone that has them loves them so we will see... I am flying my Hardesty's now and they are just coming into the roll. The Plonas from John Underberg do a good job for him so no worries there... I am very optomistic I will be able to mix the families I have into a line of class "A" rollers..Now we could have some very interesting discussions here if those two "Pink" pigeons get it done..LOL

I understand, Chan Grover has a hell of a reputation as a first class roller man. I have a light tort hen that came fom John Underberg that is a dandy. Unfortunately she got old and crapped out.

Thanks Scott,

I intend to research the birds that I keep. I just dont want to cloud my mind with the pedigree stuff right now. I dont want any influences in regards to individual birds, until they have proven themselves.

When the Indigo gene and reduced get put together you can get these colors, I refer to them as pink lace. One apears to be dbl indigo and reduced. Reduced is sexlinked so it would stand to reason, 2 indigo cocks and 2 reduced indigo hens. This would mean the cock that bred these 4 was either reduced idigo bred to a indigo hen or both parents were indigo and the cock just carried reduced. This is actually one of my goals this year to breed a few of. I have a andy cock that i hope carries reduced that I just stocked out of my comp kit.

Ty, I am not real big into these color things, but I think they can be linked to traits in performance and other things...I have been told that I will be shocked at how well these particular birds roll. I am going to fly them and if they are as good as told you are welcome to a pair if you like.

Ty, I also have some indigos in my Hardesty stuff, I actually have a son off of the first one carl used. I have a young bird that I thought was this beautiful brown/white flight. He has come into the molt and now I dont know what the hell it is...Its almost a brown and dark gold color all mixed up.

Scott has alot of knowledge about the roller that could be learned, I think one of the biggest things is that he stay's within his family to get were he want's to go. If we could just get him to fly purple rollers he would be on top of the game !!! just kidding
