I have a survey question I would like to ask. If a fancier let someone use their birds for 2 years and the fancier that used the birds switch bands and re-banded birds (Young birds with the same color were rebanded after the old birds died) do you really think the owner would not know? If the fancier told the fancier that a bird died and it really did not do you not think the truth would not come to the light. I bring this up because some fancier believe that a guy that has a family for years would have been that dumb and it is not true. I am curious to your thoughts.

LaRon,
For me, with some birds it would be possible....with others it would not. Take some of my black white flights for example. Somtimes the only way I can distinguish some of them is by checking the bands. Same with rr, blue check selfs, black selfs and andalusian selfs. Some have a little different type which makes them more identifiable, but some are pretty close in type and feather. How in the heck does someone change bands on adult birds, anyway??

The person who did that is a Smuck, a real indignanty to the old bird to remove the band.Unfortunately theres some real jerks out there.

I don't think I'd have a problem picking out Mine. If they were on loan, It would have been because the birds worth remembering. At that point it would be like someone replacing Your dog or cat. I spend alot of time with My birds and I know them like a family member.

Why would somebody want to go thru the trouble to do something like that!! To me, the minute the birds move into my loft, they are mine and mine alone. If I succeed with them, that is my achievement, and if I fail, that is my misfortune. Never the original breeder of such birds since they all go back to the "Pensom birds".

Jay - I did not understand where you were going with that one but the situation was someone had to have their birds stay with someone else while they moved and the scenario which I typed above occurred.

When all is said and done, the only thing we have left is our honesty and integrity!

I did have a guy try to switch dogs on me once, he didn't seem to think I would know the Black Lab was 3" taller at the shoulder than the Yellow! LOL

It was a very dishonest act and the original owner might not be able to tell if it has been awhile sinse he had the birds in his possession. Out of sight; out of mind kind of a thing.

Of coarse you should be able to, all of my birds go back to Kenny Billings one way or another and yet I could fairly easily pick my stock out from his because of the slight charactoristics of the key birds that I built around.
I can look into a kit of dark and blue checks and tell you who thier parents are on most,it is just knowing your birds and your family.

if the parents died, why didnt he just tell the owner that?

doing dishonest acts like that will lead to a bad friendship.

LaRon, I misunderstood the initial post. That is very dishonest (low life) in my book.

Are you sure those old birds died or were they culled?
Are you saying he used the bands off the breeders?
Sounds like they died on him, were killed or culled and tried to save face by thinking he could cover it up by using the old bands! He surely mis-judged your knowledge of your breeders. He may deserve another chance if he fesses up the real truth as to what "really happened" and that he could never fool you, but that's your call, how close are you?! Otis

Otis - It happened to a friend of mine and birds were re-banded and some that were supposedly dead was raised from the dead (They lied) a few years later.
