Sorry to hear that jnyce thats just another down fall on breeding openly I had this problem before and the crazy thing about this jnyce is that theres a big change that one bird is responsible for all that mishap Keep your head up partner keep a close eye on your birds you could probably find out who is responsible for your loss and tie his feet together with an old shoe lase about a inch apart from each other and leave him like this for about a week that should help you in the feature well take care buddy and good luck.Edgar

Jerry,

Cockbirds are territorial, they claim their space. Often times we just throw pairs into nest boxes and think because we put them there they will recognize it as their own. It works best for me if I can put the cocks into a loft for a couple of weeks in advance of mating up. When I mate them I close them in with the selected hen into the nest box they have already claimed. I have very little fighting for space this way, and therefore, no damaged nests or eggs.

If you can identify the culprit, hobbling him works very well. I use 2 snap bands tied together with floss as 'cuffs' about 3/4 to 1 inch apart.

Another tip; never have more cocks than hens in your breeding loft. You can get away with more hens, but an extra cock is almost always trouble.

I don't agree Rudy. If you have more cocks than hens in a breeding loft your asking for trouble.
