Personelly, I don't quarantine birds. I only aquire birds from "reputable" flyers ONLY, that are healthy I try to stay with the same breeders. This way I know for sure that the birds are in the best condition when I get them...

harrison...as to taking the birds to a new loft, now thats a different story. You need to give them enough time to get use to their new enviornment. I would think at least a week, at minimum... ---------- Fly High and Roll On

Paul, Obtaining birds from reputable people or friends does not necessarily protect you. Bird from other lofts, especially if they are in another distinct geographical and climatological area, have developed different immunities to other varieties of pathogens in their area and may be susceptible to pathogens in your loft, which your birds are immune to. Quarantining is a sound management practice. Cliff

harrison, Just keep in mind that most disease that wipes out lofts is brought in when guys buy or trade birds. Nobody expects it to happen, but it does...sooner or later. And I need to heed my own advice! Cliff
