Ash Red cocks carrying "Blue" will show the black ticks, the hens will not. The cock can carry both Ash Red and Blue, a hen will either show Ash Red or Blue.
An Ash Red cock carrying Blue when paired with a Ash Red hen will only produce Ash Red cocks carrying Blue, the hens will be either Ash Red (no black ticking) or Blue, not a mix of the two. ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

In the cock, the Ash Red is dominant over Blue. So you will always see the Ash Red cock with the black ticking. The hen can come out either all Ash Red or all Blue, will not be both. ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

You may occasionaly get a red check hen with ticking but it is a dark brown rather than black. Red check cocks without ticking are usually not carrying blue. So if you want to breed all reds, avoid cocks with ticking. Pisto, the dominance of colours is as follows, dominant first. Ash Red. Brown Blue. Those are the basic colours, but once you consider modifiers such as grizzle, spread and dilute, and patterns, bars barless checkers etc and then add in white and bronze and recessive red and you get thousands of combinations. The Modena has, or had at one time around 150 different patterns that were unique to that breed. You need to get a book on the subject, or use the net to study it. Pete.

hi pitso harrison here. I have grown up knowing that lavender and mealys with black opaly flicks in there tails and on there bodys are cocks. I have never seen this on hens. I think lavenders with these flicks on there body and tail are the most beutifull coulers you can get. Anyone got a nice picture? harrison uk.ps I also have noticed they seem to be brilliant pigeons in the sky.Any reason for this?
