---------- If the Hen is lost will the cock still feed the young when they are only 7 days old and continue to feed them by himself until they are able to eat and drink by themselves

I tell you the truth if I have a choice I rather have the hen lost because the cock does a good job once they are at that age..

Yes but make sure you don't have any extra hens in the pen with him. If he starts chasing hens and mates up with one, he may abandon the young.

I feel you on the fosters brudapete but I have not yet the heart to chuck eggs out. My wife says that's cruel and playing God.There's only 4 hens in the same loft with the cock left to feed the young and they are paired up and sitting on eggs.Once these eggs hatch and the young reach 1 week old I will remove these 4 hens and just leave the cocks in this loft to feed the young until they are all old enough to go in the kit box. Then moving forward I will keep my hens and cocks seperated until I decide to pair a few up again maybe in May. By Mid March I'll 23 young squeakers to fly and see what I have produced from 9 different pairs. some 2 rounds a few one round only. These first young are experimental. 3 different strains. hens to cocks that are similar in kitting, volocity, depth, and roll.

Hey not to hijack the thread but say it was the other way around? The cock was missing would the hen then continue to feed the baby?

Newbie 08 the eggs don't start developing right away though so you could toss em out as soon as they are layed.
And replace em with the wood eggs.

Newbie 08 if your gonna feel bad about tossing eggs then its gonna be harder culling birds. Just watch out for some of the tough guys on this forum that might start attacking you, because you feel this way.
