MY BIRD KILLD TODAY
It is so true when people always say its the (best birds) that always get killd by birds of pray or the fu**ing cats.
I bred aout 50 young last year and i have had a fly away. Cat attacks god knows how many times and pirds of pray. If the naiboures could see me when i was waving a sweeping brush in the sky screaming and swearing at a hawk they would report me to the mad house.lol. I had a good sort out with my yearlings a few month ago and kept about 10 witch i thought would one day be my stock birds. So as it stands now i have got two in the breeders and 3 in a kit.I had one go missing 2 days ago a(red pide)and then i let the remaining ones out today and as i was watching them a red was rolling (ACE) nice and tight. deep. and good controle then straight back in the kit after coming out of the roll facing the way the kit was flying. I said to myself that is going in the breeders when i get them in. I come in the house.had my tea and whent to lock them up. FU**ING red feathers all over the garden i carnt believe i jinxd myself like that. I am already at war with the cat owners over this trouble before. As out of temper one day i said i was going to kill there cat (SOMETHING I WOULD NOT DO)so they brought the police to me. And can you believe that me and my naiboures had to come to an arrangment where at 4 pm they keep the cat in and i let my birds out.WHAT A FU**ING LAUGTH. A few days later there cat was on the prowl abain. They dont even let the thing in the house. My garden backs onto there garden and you can see when they shout for the cat and feed it at the back gate. I am at the end of my tether now and have run out of opshions. can Anyone help me. I no what its going to come to but i dont want that. PLEASE HELP.Harrison uk

harrison,
You would not like the ideas that I have used in the past, so I will not go into detail about ridding your yard of cats in that fashion.
Now, lets try it in a different way....
Get a "have a heart trap" and catch the little buggers. Take them on a very long drive and give'em the boot!!!
Regards, Bill from NJ

Electric fence....I have done it and it works....go down to the feed store...get the cheapest electricfence, wire and insulators....wire that bitch all around the area that it is getting in.....make it look like world war II bob wire...lol...just go back and forth...if the cat sits on a fence and jumps on your loft..put it on the fence....I always hang a piece of chicken on it...so that way the little bastard will try and eat the chicken and BAM shock city...after a hit or two....that cat will go nowhere near the wires....then all you have to do is put the wires anywhere the cat goes and it will relate the wires to shock...done it and it works....works great for dogs too.....My dog had been hit and then she started digging in my planter..just laid a wire across the planter...not even hooked up and the dog goes nowhere near it....
rock and ROLL
Paul
Works good for teenagers trying to sneak out of the house too..LOL>...not lying...wired it right where my son jumped out the window...LOL

harrison just give ur neighbor a heads up that if they dont keep the cat maintain and it keeps getting ur birds and if it ends up dying u should not be responsible. Cuz cat be eatin ur bird if it contracted a disease and die then fault lies within the owner's responsibility. whenever i fly my youngs out a couple of them end up in neighbor yard and dogs end up eatin it. i solve the issue jus by lettin the neighbor know tat im cool with his dog eating the bird on his yard since it was able to catch it, but u know i tole him my bird may have disease and his dog mite not make it alive after a few meal of rollers. guy kept the dog chain in his yard real good afterward. ---------- kham thao

Ken and Kham have really good points that you should look into doing. I myself would feed the cat "Catnip", keep the cat high as hell he would know what to do other then chase his tail lmao, just joking on the catnip, the cat would probably never leave my yard. haha. Good luck Harrison. ---------- Tony...

My friend Bill asked me to post this for him he was not able to get in to post on the forum computer problems.
I was on www.roller-pigeon.com. and read a plea for help with a cat problem. the site would not let me on after many tries. I saw that you post some and was wondering if you would pass on this info for the gentelman. He then needs to contact his local animal control and tell them what is going on. Then trap the cat and turn it over to them. the neighbor can then pay to get the cat back or the animal control will take care of the animal. they are a great help to me in Ogden and loan me catch a live traps. I also own my own. this is what they told me to do so it is legal and I am protected. if he catches it a few times then their bill will get to where they decide to take care of their cat or leave it with animal control to dispose of. Thanks Bill

harrison, I say this with the best intention's. Never fly Your birds if your not going to watch them. I have had cats in My yard, but when they see Me they leave. train Your pigeons to come in when they land. they should land on your shed and go in straight away, if not there over fed. The next time you point your finger at that cat, look at your hand and see how many fingers are pointing at you. your problem is a simple one to over come. You make sound like a lion or tiger. It's just a cat, they don't sneak up and get your birds if your doing your part.keep your cool.

Harrison, J Star is not riding you! He is an X-Moderater as myself. We have been around for a long time and we know what kind of subjects can cause problems for us and this site. J Star is just reminding everyone to be careful where we go with this conversation. He is a great guy and cares about the site. Thats all I read out of his post. I see nothing offensive in his post!
Good luck with your problem! I had this problem awhile back myself! I put a picture of my mother-in-law up and the cats stay away now! LOL ---------- Val

Harrison I know what you feeling as I myself had the same problem with my neighbors cat.and now we don't talk since he challenge me to come over to his land and fight but I'm not stupid so I told him lets meet outside in the street but he never went out .well once you do me wrong like that your dead to me never be friends again especially when I have treated him like a brother. the cat wouldn't get my birds when I'm there he would go underneath and get them through the wire so I put a white fence around it now and they can't get in..and it was the wife who instigated it.but he knew how I am and who I am all you have to do is talk to me in a good tone and everything will be alright.so I told the wife now I know who is who..now I never leave my birds not even for a cup of tea.cause even up there the BoP will be doing his thing and I want to make sure which bird got caught...and I don't wanna miss a roll or hit from them.. I hope everything turn out alright for you m8...there is nothing worse than you trying to be in peace with these birds and someone cause you hell....I know believe me I know.. ---------- Ralph

I hear humane traps.. Are the way to go ; )
A traveling sales man told me this..
Get some cheep cans of cat food (99cents store) Open the can slightly (so you can re-use it) Put the can in the trap, Set trap, put the trap on your propriety, Sit back and listen for the door to slam shut Than..
You can..
a) be Mr. nice guy walk the cat in the cage next door kindly inform the you will be trapping all unwelcome felines on my property. I will give you the first one in hopes that you will take control of you animals, the next one will go to the animal shelter and you can pick them up their.
b) just trap them and take them far-far-far-far-far- away, and when the neighbor ask you have you seen fluffy lie through your teeth.
Ps, I prefer B (12 notches)

Do what I did, I went and got a very young TOMCAT kitten and put it in with my birds, he got so used to the birds he lays in the loft and when I am there he goes in and lays on the floor, the birds have to fly over him to eat! BONUS-he keeps all other cats away and is a wonderful mouser around the loft! ---------- Pat

I unfortunately, live with two cats. My neighbor also has a cat. In a year I have lost 1 bird to them. It was my fault. I mismanaged them. They were young birds that I was just starting. They were over feed, and would not trap in a good manner. I had an appointment I had to keep, and left them on the kit box. When I returned, one was lost, and the other young birds would not get on the kit box. I lost another young pigeon because it would not return to the kit box, from the trauma. It took some work to correct that problem. I repeat it was my fault. I agree with 0221. “Never fly your birds if you’re not going to watch them.” You understand your problem, the cat by nature is going to try and eat your birds. You can utilize some of the other suggestions (Dog, tom Cat, electric fence, kit box placement and design, etc). Ultimately you need to manage your birds to keep them healthy and alive. And that means train them to trap quickly and watch them.

I have 2 cats now. I`ve not had any problem with them getting my birds. Just watch them at all times. Where I live a cat is concidered your property if it is ON your property. And while it is on your property you can do as you wish. I used to do that, but now I figure as long as they are`nt bothering my birds they will help keep away the rodents. ---------- Butch @ Sundance Roller Lofts
