Hey Flipmode, I tried videotaping before and the heights and angles are too much for me to get a hang of. There are plenty of people who fly these birds and a few have posted on this site. That should be enough. Some people just want to be hard@$$e$ and poke at the serious efforts of a serious Roller Fancier.
I can say whatever I want about the quality in the gene-pool, but you have never heard me call a single bird a champion or use extreme words to hype my stock. To quote Matt Baur from the TV show 24, when his loyalties were questioned by the President, he says: "with all due respect Madame President, just ask around".
If you really want to know the quality these birds posses, "with all due respect...just ask around." ;-) ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

Hi all. I am Harrison from the city calld Hull in the uk. I have kept roller on and off for many years but never been so into them as i am now. I got my birds from a local man calld steve farah and he keeps brilliant rollers. He doesnt fly in compatishion but is a ring member in the same club as me . the all england roller club. I have been telling him that he should compete but he finds it hard to get his birds ready as he works silly hours (AS MANY OF YOU DO). last year i had my first fly and was told by the judges even before putting them up that they was imature and i new this .as you can guess i didnt do well.lol.What my point his that people on this site seem to get on peoples backs and slag there names bcause they dont do well in a fly or somone who keeps there line didnt do well so that gives them the right to slag the main breeder.BOLLOCKS. Bcause i had a bad fly does that make my friend steves birds rubish? I no for sure that one day he will fly in comp and his name his one to watch out for. Also I have his birds so when i get them right and get the right weather and all the LUCK in the world on my side i could also be a contender for the futre. like i said what my point his is that back yard flyers do not enter comps bcause they have crap birds.they have many reasons. I hope that people can see my point and understand what i am saying? I am not verry good at putting words together and my spelling aint upto much but i try.lol. yours in roll Harrison uk.

Harrison You stated.."back yard flyers do not enter comps bcause they have crap birds.they have many reasons."
Some have very good reason not to fly..they are usally not the one on the site complaining...I'm talking about the "Backyard complainers" the guy that has no reason not to fly and be involved..has all the answers..has better birds..use to fly but...I have observed the same thread/problem runs through this group of pigeon keepers..their easily offended..self inflicted. bwinward

winwardrollers, "Not sure you know what your Talking about after that statement then Tony's response after about the backyard.. hoopla". Sir, there is no need to fill me in on the history of Morts' birds... I purchased breeding stock from Mort and have talked to him on many occasions. I did not state that Mort had never competed but when was the last time Mort competed? Go back and read my post carefully with an open mind and you will see that I am saying, a fancier does not have to compete to fly good birds. Let's be honest, there is at least one person who responded to this post and has apparently changed their stance on the importance of comp. flying. Not long ago this same person posted ALOT OF CRAP about backyard fliers not being able to breed good birds because they didn't test them in comp. flying and did not breed to the same standard as comp. fliers. I know there were new fanciers that read that nonsense and may have come away with the wrong idea about not competing because the individual who posted that crap is a fairly successful flier.

Katcher, Whatever line of birds you end up getting will require years of work to mold them to your standard.Your standard is at it's begining stages. You will have to put in your flight time, just like the birds you are wanting to breed for.The challenge ahead of you is a rewarding one, because I can tell you there are no shortcuts or ground breaking discoverys. There is on the other hand constant and ruthless selection ,tempered with unparalled patience with roller pigeons. To answer your question, everything you could be looking for is in Tony's Ruby line. There will be many forks in the road, but your path will straighten as move in your own direction. It is at this time that your results will be more predictable, and your management style will be less frustrating, yet always evolving. The Ruby's tend to be medium to small medium.I truthfully do not like the small ones, but I do not like the smaller pigeon in any strain. When I see the lavenders or the dun checks, they are under my watchful eye,as my better Ruby's come in these colors.I have some exceptional mealy bars, but I would really like more. There is some good roll in the red checks but I have to work on their stamina and kitting issues.I feel as you move away from your originals you will be breeding and select your best, you will have an outstanding stud of rollers that can withstand any direction you decide to take them.Good Luck and Aloha,Todd ps I have been flying, breeding, and training Tony's Ruby line for 4 1/2 years.

Kev,
In this years team, I did not have any pure Ruby rollers...they were all crosses with just a couple of pure morts....3/4 Ruby...to 1/2 Ruby....to 1/4 Ruby....and a couple Chuck Roe/MOrt Crosses.....My 07 and one of my best kits was 06 and they were about a mixture of pure Mort, Ruby, Roe and some crosses....
rock and ROLL
Paul
I just ordered 4 Rubys to up mystock.

$59.95 is peanuts! when you are buying birds! That's like nothing.. Roller Alley got it right, buy the bird then do the work!

Some of the best birds in the world are flown by backyard fliers that never compete. There is one here in Vegas that comes to mind. The best way to find out if a man's rollers are what you want is to call that man and hopefully go see them fly. You can see from the photos that the Ruby Rollers are a tight family of very typey birds. They represent the type of bird that I have seen that spin with the best. If you really want to find out how good they are invest a few hundred bucks and start breeding them. That's what put up or shut up means! I haven't heard of anyone complaining about the man's birds. You got to pay to play! Sincerely, Don M. Mac's Rollers LVRC
