Hey All,

This is a Hen that I just pulled for stock...she is an 07 pure Mort...from my Red Mottle Cock (just died), and my Blue Bar Mort Hen. She was fast as hell, 20-40'....Joe Urbon saw this bird about a month ago and saw her hit the 40'mark...and his comments made me pull this bird....I have flown her for 2 years and she is nails...so here she is...

I just know how easy it is to loose the good ones these days. So do you. I have always said that to build a great kit you have to first build a great stock loft. Far to many great birds are lost to preditors and overflies just because they were needed in the kit to hopefully win a fly. I am glad you pulled her and the others. You have obviously listened to more than just me. Your stock loft shows that. Joe

Photobucket Joe Urbon knows good birds that should be utilized for breeding purposes. Concentration on the stock loft Paul is perhaps the best way for all of us to genetically engineer those top notch spinners we all desire for competition. The key formula here is having the proper stock to begin with in the first place.

NOTE: We get this particular stock by selectively picking the very best performers out of the air.

...and

The rest is merely left up to feeding, breeding, cleaning, training and routinely flying (proper loft management).

....well anyway

Paul... I was just wondering if you by any chance have any of that old Higgins stuff in your lofts. Jerry Higgins old line was the old pure Pensom stuff that was deep but not as frequent as he liked them to be. Jim Lippincott from Apple Valley and Jerry traded a few birds back in the day. In the late 70's Jerry made a few introductions through David Sanchez and Richard Espinoza. The birds he used were down from Joe Houghton's 5071/199 famous pair. The birds that Dave and Richard recieved back in the mid 70's were birds that came down through this pair or decendants of this pair. Keep in mind these birds were down from one of the greatest breeders of all time Mr. Bruce Cooper of Kelso Washington!

NOTE: Bruce Cooper in the 50's and 60's was a household name in the roller world. He was the fundamental reason why the Northwest had so many great Birmingham roller pigeons via his good friend the late Bill Pensom.

Later in the late 80's Ron Kumro and Jerry exchanged a few birds to which it helped both of them in the process. Ron Kumro of course got his birds directly from Joe Houghton so in essence they were of the same makeup. Jerry's 923 cock bird is behind alot of birds floating around the entire country today. Three generations behind this cock and you will find the 5071/199 pair on a certified pedigree.

Paul, she is a true looker and typical body style of Morts. I have, from you, a blue bar self that looks exactly like her and perform probably like you described.

Marcus,

I dont know the complete History on the Mort birds...but Brad W. form Utah flys the same stuff...but I know that the birds are Plona based and Mort brought in the some Higgins...they originated I believe from Jay Starly and Scott Campbell(Utah)..I know that when I first got them...most were real deep and fast....but were not frequent and they had big breaks...that is the main reason I crossed with the Ruby Rollers...because I wanted to get the frequency of the RUby's with the power of the Mort birds...But the Mort pairs that I selected and work with are alot more frequent then my originals...and this hen I pulled is a frequent bird or pure Mort.....I am putting her on a Grizzle Mort Cock that I have....that is out of my 97 Grizzle Hen that is not longer with us....and a Super Tort Cock that I had that too is no longer with us....now it is just wait and see...

What you see is what most of my stock hens look like..even the Ruby Rollers have the same look and the Crosses look like a Ruby...but with Power...

I know there is Higgins in the line but how much I dont know....I dont really know much about the total background of the Mort birds...I know that Mort did use the Higgins birds in the 80's and Early 90's...to add some spice to the Plona based birds

Only Morteza knows the full story on his birds. Knowing morteza that is probably how it will be.
Norm Reed would be more correct than Higgins bird.
My guess is that grizzles would be from Scott Campbell of Ogden birds. Blacks and Lavender birds would be Plona from Winward.
Who knows this many generations now what came from what...That's why they are "Paul Fullertons birds" now.

Like the red Checker hen ..from the picture like lots about the bird.
One thing that I see and the picture maybe deceiving is that the Secondary flights look wide.
If I was breeding the hen I would take this in consideration when finding a mate for her.

Paul - Nice bird and good luck.

Marcus - It really tickles me how 3 years ago hardly anyone even mentioned Bruce's name now he is a household word. Just a little note there were guys talking so much trash about Bruce's birds now those same individuals are trying to get under his wing. People are funny.

Hey Paul,

This is Thomas the guy who bought your 8 squeakers at the NCRC acution today. I would love to see some pics of your breeder(of the sqeakers your planning to give me in June) if you dont mine sharing them. I have read some post in the search engine about your birds and checked your scoring in the flys and I refuse to wait for them now(lol)! But I will wait for them though. I know it will be worth it. Last but not least do you mind when I come get the sqeakers if I see your ruby/Mort fly(if it is possible for you to fly)?

Thanks,
Thomas Thao
