I've bred Baldheads for nearly 40 years. I think I gave give you some tips. Your chances of getting a perfect baldhead are slim. Only if the cock bird has a lot of white in his backgroud can you hope to get close. What you can do is take the young that are closest to baldhead and start to breed them until you get better and better markings. The quicker path would be to get a good baldhead cock from someone. I found the tails were the hardest to get all white from crossing with a dark tailed bird.

Hello everyone, new to this board but been rasing rollers & homers for the past 40 plus years. About 20 years ago I obtained some Whitinghams from a guy north of Columbus Ohio and was wondering if anyone is rasing them any more.
I hear alot about ruby rollers and was just wondering if they are the same.

The birds I got from him were self yellows, Yellows with white flights and tails, dropped 40-50ft.

Welcome to the site the three of you and hope you guys enjoy your stay. I have a baldhead red bar w/f/t cock that was paired with blue bar beard w/f/t hen that throws baldheads often. Some times the marking are not that good and on occasions perfect marking. Also one time they threw an odd side for me.

For your sake, I would say pair her with a mate that has white flight and tail if you can not find another bald head. Also if the new mate exhibit a beard that would be great. That is just my opinion.

66er,

I started with a few bald heads, then later got Hardesty birds, the bh end up running off or getting culled, I had 0 luck with them rolling much. My advice.... look for something better.

The Guy in Ohio's name was Steve Roth. He lived not too far from me and had Whittinghams for years. He moved away a long time ago and the last I heard he was living in Texas

Any Ohio folks out there know of a Harry Ashcraft that had Fireball Rollers in the Akron area?

He sent me a kit via Delta to SFO in the early 80's. Harry had some pretty deep birds. Had a pearl eyed tortoise shell hen that he sent me with a gold colored aluminum band. I flew her and was amazed at her 80ft rolls (dropped down roughly 3 telephone poles) in the air.

NOTE: She never bumped once and flew dot high. Only problem is that she didn't kit at all and bred me a couple of rolldowns. Not much use for a bird like that now, however she was fun to watch in those days as a back yard enthusiast.

....so

If any of you Ohio natives know if Harry Ashcraft is still alive and raising roller pigeons.... then please holla back.

Fuentes the rollers you shared with us are nice looking birds. Those dark birds with the white markings on the head are called low bib baldheads. The West of England Tumbler baldheads are low bib and very attractive. I have rollers marked like yours. Thank you for letting us see your birds. Ray

Guy's my apologies for the last pic on the red check cock I will try and get a clear pic on him in the future, that was the only pic I have on him and I wanted to show the combination on how I was able to raise the two baldies and thanks Ray for clarifying the color pattern. Your friend R.Fuentes

Deerrack,

Rolldowndave was correct about the pigeons from Ohio you mentioned. They were from Steve Roth... Who got all of HIS Whittinghams from the loft of Charlie Hubbs.

Those birds you speak of were Charlie Hubbs Mottles.

A wonderful gentleman, and he is truely missed.

Bill from NJ

You said this was for performing Birminghams, well can I tell you a short story. When I started out I only had one pure white roller in the kit
flying. It was my favorite. It only rolled a few times before a hawk was after it. I remember saying Please dont take my white bird, please
dont take my white bird. Well you live and learn. Today I still get the occational white bird from a few grizzles I have. But now when I fly my
kit I am saying " Please take the white bird, please take the white bird." In other words your favorite bird should be the one that performs well
when you fly them not if it is white or bald head. It makes a huge difference in your stock loft over time what you put into it. I have not done
everything by the book either but color was never an issue for me once I saw them perform in the air. They can be all blue check and I will
still have my favorite blue check that tears up the sky. Bill C

Tim, It sounds like you have a lot of time and birds and that is fine. We all do what we like, right! But I would like to also quote Bill Pensom
on something here. The true Birmingham roller is so hard to breed more than any other pigeon because they have so many more faults in
them than other breeds. I think that will say a lot for the new guy. Its hard enough to get good rollers since they have the highest amount of
culls of any other pigeon breed. You figure it out! Good luck Bill C

I also dont breed for color.
I breed for ROLL and ROLL only if I get somthing that rolls nice and looks nice at the same time then thats a bonus.
The line of birds I am dealing with do consist of mainly white in color.
And these birds are 100% performing Birmingham Rollers.
I do have red checks and blue checks but alot of,Balds, pides, beards, grizz, oddside.
These are colors tat you are sure to find in every UK loft.
I dont no of or heard of one guy who has checks and bars and selfs only.
yours harrison uk hull.
