hi everyone i'm new and made alot of mistakes and hope u guys could point me the right directions. 2008 i flew my kit birds at young age 2-12 and i notice mostly all young birds dies from bop when the young comes in first or seems not enough strenght to fly with the kit and they get picked off i feed the 14% 1table spoon per birds (15) and i was now given the advice of 50/50 wheat and milos only

I start my birds out flying at 3-4 weeks. I like to let them goof around a bit til they start flying. These birds should have some peas as well in thier diet til they mature.

----------Hey Pararoller, they didn't die because of you when the BOP is hungry he won't stop until get its food. the only time you can say they die because of you is when you don't lock down when they are around but .I feed my birds always a good mix 16% until they are around 7 month so they all that good protein mix for proper developing them if I wanna change I do it but here I have no choice because their is no Milo or Wheat ..

Pararoller, The 50/50 wheat and milo should be for an older flying kit. Your younger birds need the protien mix feed because they are still growing and building muscles.
You should not fly very young birds with older birds. You need two or three kit boxes the house each group.
If your young birds are getting eaten by BOP you need to stop flying for two or three weeks and make the hawks look for food somewhere else. You are just ringing the dinner bell for them to come eat some squeakers. They will never leave as long as you keep feeding them. If they think they have run out of easy birds to eat in an area they will move onto better hunting grounds. Just like fishing or hunting for animals, a place could be just fished out and no matter how good you are if there are no big fish in the area you wont catch any.
Only fly early in the morning and I mean get up with sun up to fly. Dont fly late in the day. Wait to train young birds when the wild birds have raised their first round and you will have much better luck with your young rollers.
You could be losing your best birmingham roller to the hawk that you raised this year if you fly them and lose them that much. Once the sky is clear, then fly your young every day and your older birds 6 month or older everyother day if they roll, in seperate bird lofts (kit boxes). You should get a good roller book and study it. Or read all the past posts above in the archives and you will learn a lot that way. Bill C

Bill is Right....young birds need mix...nothing else.....I feed my young birds mix until they start to come into the roll and I dont me flips...I mean setting up and rolling. At that time they are promoted to a more active team and then flown every other day and the put on Mix on the day of the fly and wheat milo on the second day. When the birds really start rolling and actually looking like a team...the birds get mix after they fly FULL RATION and then wheat milo on the rest day...I usually rest my team birds two days...and I cut the feed a little each rest day...
A full ration to me is two cups of feed for 20 birds and there are 10 spoons per 1/2 cup....so that is actualy 4 spoons for each bird if you do the math for a full ration.
Anyway..you must remember young birds need ALOT of food...they are moulting....and growing...and they need the feed.....I feel to many people are scared to feed mix ....to kit birds and I cant figure it out....expecially young birds..and they need it....hell if I feel my old brids getting light they will get two days of mix.....
I fell healthy birds will roll better and faster then weak birds.....just my thought...but by all means...feed those young birds mix....my old birds again get mix every time they fly...and a full ration.
Dont get hung up on the two spoons per bird..that is a crock of shit....you give the birds what they need when they need it...feel the birds...handle the birds...if they feel light..give them some mix...if they are moulting MIX....Winter MIX..hell my birds get FULL MIX 3 days before a big fly...ALL THEY CAN EAT>..so anyway....just some more advice here...
