Good question,When I use to fly young birds that didn't start to roll yet, 3 times a day ...I would feed by treats let say millet then the last fly complete ration sometimes throw a hand of mix just to leep their strength up but when I flew them 3 times I make sure they flew only 20 minutes each fly so 20 x 3 = 60 so instead of flying them for one hour in one fly I would do it in three and they still flew the hour but I like doing it this way so they don't develope the habit of flying long they get into a good habit short time flying. when I fly them once a day or every other day like when they start rolling they give me 30 minutes and that's according to the feed and how much ration they get. now I fly for 20 minutes and back down because of BOP.have to protect these athletes the best I can..----------

Newbie,
Why fly 3 times a day?
Granted youngsters need air time but you have to keep a handle on your spinners.
Twice a day is plenty if you feed a good ration the
day before of the proper mix that your birds respond to.
Feed enough to keep them in the air about 40-45 minutes in the morning and around 30 minutes in the
evening.
After your youngsters start to roll good you do know
they need rest or you will fly the roll out of them.

Hi Billy,
What I do his let them out in the morning (around 10am).
When they come in I feed them half of bean tin of depurative. (Wheat and barly) and then the same around 5 pm.
I fly twice daily30-40 mins until I am happy with the way they are flying and rolling.
Then drop to one fly a day.
then after a month o so of once a day maybe miss a day during the week.
Then lock them up over the weekend.
I do have good look with my young birds and even my friends who are alot older and more educated in rollers than me saying that I do a good job.
Like stated above If you continue to fly them twice for ever you will lose the roll in them and they will get that strong on the wing they will end up getting above themselfs then you will end up with a fly away.
(were all your kit clear off and you never see the again bcause some sod as got them in there shed and they are better than there birds so they cut the rings off and keep them.
Good look for 09.
yours in roll harrison uk.PS> as for flying 3 times daily that his WAY to much fly time.

harrison, ive tryed it all as far as feeding and pinning down the effects of diffrent feed on my rollers. But for me you called it, depuritive 11% this stuff works unreal an my rollers are almost robotic. Oyea three times a day can be too much depending, on what you are trying to get outta the birds. For me the more hours under the wing the faster they develope the roll, however after that happens then I personally cut down the fly time to a fraction of that, once every third day maby. hope this helps and good luck..

BILLY YOU (MUST) ALWAYS FLY YOUR BIRDS ON AN EMPTY STOMACH (MUST).
For many reasons
1, The bird will roll more on a empty stomach,
2, Your birds will bcome verry lazy and just sit up on the roof and ignor you.
3. You will have no chance of getting them back in your shed if they have a belly full of grub.

Just remember that you controle the bird.
And the only way to do that his by (FOOD).
If they have food when they feel like it and fly on a full stomach you are set up to fail.
Good look mate,
yours in roll harrison. uk.

A BEAN TIN WORTH OF FOOD TO "20" BIRDS.
IF FLYING TWICE A DAY
HALF AFTER FIRST FLY, HALF AFTER SECOND FLY.
When you are weaning your young birds (TAKEN THEM AWAY FROM THE PAIRENTS) When you feed them give them as much as they want any time of the day.
Remember babys ar only babys for so long and they need food to grow.
Remember how they are brought up could reflect on there lifes.
When they are starting to lift of the ground I start feeding them twice a day and take the food away from them.
When I put the food in the kit box I start rattleing my food tin and whiste at them.
As they get older they will no that when you rattle your tin and whistle it is food time and they will trap into the kit kwick time.
If you need info on ANYTHING and Ica help just give me a shout.
