I have an open loft of homers, can I raise rollers in the same area? I would just give them their own space for nesting.

Will they still 'do their thing' or will they want to just fly with the homers? Will they get to far away and not return / lost! I am not looking for prize winning, just fun!

I have never kept homers, but when I was a kid, a friend of mine did. When he mixed rollers and racers the rollers did not do so well. The homers would just "beat up" the poor rollers and chase them around.

For best results they should be kept separated. You'll enjoy the rollers more this way.

The only thing that might help is if there is a lot of room for both breeds in the same loft. But I still don't like it myself...

I have not yet seen a roller yet that can keep up with racers. I see trouble ahead if you mix'em.

Hope this helps!

I have tried mixing a 2 pairs of Foster Rollers with 4 pairs of racers in a 4X8 loft and found the racers to be too rough on the rollers-They are much larger and more aggressive when going for feed. I will not do this again.

In the breeding loft the homers will beat the tar out of the rollers. If you fly them together as soon as the young homers start routing you'll lose your rollers.

Hey Tony.

Do you think you could delete some of these "not so useful" posts? I think you could free up some space, and shut the door to those that want to open up old wounds. LOL Maybe some of the list moerators could sift through some of it with you. Just a thought.

I have both Homers and Rollers. I don't house them together. Ron is correct, the rollers will suffer. Also in flying them together the homers fly too fast and the rollers won't develop properly. I have turned loose my race team to bring a kit of rollers in that were getting too high or had wandered off and that seems to work. I have also flown my young rollers with some homers if they stopped flying and wanted to sit in the trees. The homers would keep them up in the air and give them a good fly. Not something I do often. I like to use the homers as fosters and I also like them for out flying the coopers and possibly discouraging them.

Spud, right on the money.I use my homers to bring down a skyed out kit to.Have also turn them out when under BOP attack, seems to cut the losses.
Kenny talk about fosters,I have two little rollers on the floor in the foster loft(Homers) that are getting pumped by three different cock birds. They don't care "Who's the Daddy" LOL
