I would just put something there so they cant get on top like that. Then they will get used to a new perch. After she lays the eggs, remove whatever you used to block off the top so the cock has a high perch to chill on. Would you feel more comfortable with eggs in a nest bowl on top of your nest box, or eggs safely in the box? ... Thats what I would do..

I like my pairs to be able to sleep closely, even with babies. Your dimensions might be a bit cramped. Then again, pigeons are quite versatile.See what happens, they should be going down on eggs any day.Glen.

The picture might be misleading, but it appears kinda high to me.
I like the boxs to be eye level so I can see in easily.
A rule of thumb I like to go by came from an old parrot breeder friend who told me never let a bird set on a perch above you. They feel superior if they are above you. And as we know ,the lead cocks will usually take the higher spots in a kitbox for this reason.
Also, if they`re above you , you might get pooped on...LOL

Something i encountered when I started keeping and breeding pigeons were snakes... Small Copperheads mostly. Before I stumbled on the first one, I would carelessly check the nests by sticking my hand an feeling for eggs.... I thought about this after reading sundance's post about not being able to see in the box... thought i would share.

a friend of mine told me to make nest box big enough to put 2 bowls in well i didnt a yesterday i found a problem a pair of my birds have layed on the floor , i assume its because the already have to youngs in the nest but they are not ready to be weaned yet so i see why u may need to nest bowls in one bowl

I use to have those next boxes dimensions for my homers not for breeding but a perching..they won't have enough room for turning around especially with three birds in there the two squabs and the hen and if the cock goes in even tighter...the problem is once they lay and you move them they don't wanna sit might not be as bad if its in the same place where you have them....I know I move mine from a small cage with squabs already born and move them to a kitbox where there was more room and they didn't sit the youngsters and the next day they were freezing lucky for me the temperature doesn't go below 60 here so they survive I had to place them back where they were..

Hi.
yes I would also block off the top so they carnt get on it.
The box looks that small I dont think you need to worry about putting a nest ball in there.
Just make sure they have plenty of nesting matareial and they will be ok.
I have a pair that keeps getting avicted out of there box so all I did was put a nest ball on the floor and put the birds into it and now they are happy as larry.lol.
I dont have room to fit two nest balls in my boxes but if you could build a box the same as the one you have and put it next to it they will lay there second round in there while they are still feeding there young.
Good look mate and welcome to the world of the BIRMINGHAM ROLLER PIGEON,

PS. Also Get some oyster shell grit for your birds as this helps with there eggs and makes them nice and hard. Wich will help the eggs abit as they do get bashd about abit sometimes.
I put two grit balls in 3 days ago with my breeders and it as all gone already.
Hope that I could have helpd you?
yours harrison.

the snakes can't get in no wire floor but i will keep that in mind this was my first loft ever had no plans just did it a freind gave some birds for training my dog and i was watching them fly and seen them do some at the time weird stuff in the air so i decided to resaerch them and found out what i had and that is how i got into these rollers i aquired some females from a couple of guys from iowa on here and i'm hoping to start my own roller breeding and as far as the dog goes she is trained w/ ferral pigeons now, a farmer i know has a ton at his place so i trap them so thanks for all the info like i said i found a hobby that i am very excited about and we will see what it becomes thanks again for everyone's help kevin
