Are all Plonas created equal? Nope, the ones you had may have needed more feed to make them fly for 20 mins then mine. All strains go in the direction we allow them to go, one guys Plonas may fly to fast and to high on a few seeds, while another’s family of Plonas might need two cups just to get them to fly at a decent height. My Plonas are not hard to fly, at least there not for me. All strains evolve a little different with each owner.

pure plona's are very hard to fly and a newbie might get frustrated because of the loss. they are very strong and fly for long periods of time if you feed them to much, but the roll is outstanding. you would have to find a balance with this family and if you can then roll on! coyote

What part of the country are you in 530flyer? I am interested in knowing more about how they perform as well. I have a couple unflown plonas that I want to raise a few rounds off of this year and see how they do.

Good post rollerman. I go round to my friends whom I got my birds from and he will let a kit out and given 15 mins they are landing. He flys them one cup of weat and split maize to 20 birds. I fly my 20 birds on one cup of weat and barley and get 30~40 mins with no problem and can change this by adding or taking awaya feed. so yes Even though many fly the same line of birds many have adapted ther birds to diffrent feeding patterns. It all starts when they are babys. When I wasnt educated on rollers I would feed them to much and then when you cut there food they would hang on the wire 24 7. were as now bcause I get the feed right when they are youngsters I can add feed and take away and there stomachs can addapt to this quiet good. With rollers I have found that If you mess up on the feed you mess the bird up. Get the feed right and you are one step closer to success. Thanks harrison.uk.

Harrison, you said "I fly my birds on one cup of wheat and barley and get 30-40 minutes flying". How long do you wait between feeding and flying? Glen.

Hi 530. What i do his go in my garden around 9am and do my chours, feeding breeders cleaing loft ect..ect.. Then I let my kit out around 10am. And watch the birds doing there stuff, and breaking my neck tring to keep up with them .LOL. After around 30 mins they fly lower so as soon as I give them a shout and whistle they land and come in. I give them HALF tin of food and put the water in. I leave the water in and lock them up untill our lass goes to school about 3.15pm. I then again clean up let them out ect..ect.. They come in and get HALF TIN food and water. I then take the water away and lock them up till the next day. Wheat and barley go through the birds like wild fire so once I feed them in the morning they are ready for more after there last fly, good look and remember (YOU CONTROLE THE BIRDS) and thats by doing it with (FOOD). yours harrison uk. PS. Two years ago I use to feed my birds big corn (MAPLE PEAS TIC BEANS MAIZE ect..) my birds use to roll but nothing like I had seen them at my friends house when I picked them out the sky. My ring secertery told me to switch over to wheat and barley and god After a week it was unreal. Birds I had seen sloppy was spining there heads off. One bird even rolled down I told goerge about this on the phone and he said it was due to the birds needing abit more food. My advice would be try the 3 QUARTER TIN for a week and if your birds are doing more than what you want cut back to HALF TIN. Please keep me informed on how you get on. GOOD LOOK Harrison. I no you asked for a simple answer but I like to type away.LOL.

Oh yea 530flyer food definitely makes a difference I fed my birds Just Milo just because I happen to find it in a store here I thought I play with them a little bit and the next day these birds went flat the whole 20 minutes it didn't even take a week to kick in so I lock them up for a few days thought maybe they need rest fed one day mix two day Milo they came out flying low fast one or two rolls man I said never again ,so I put them back on mix what they always been on and sure enough the day they flew a nice slow steady pattern nice height and roll twice a minute and it was only 8 birds well all 8 roll in concert notice one would roll but stop when notice no one roll.. did like 2 or 3 flip and stop like waiting for team to roll with him now I seen this bird roll 20 foot .. I was like in heaven today.. so feed does make a difference .and their body know the difference when feed is change on them from what they were raise on..you have to find out what works for your family and just play with that feed deducting or adding let them tell you what they need and what works for them.. .. ---------- Ralph.

It's just a name of a family. Means very little as once some one else touches them, they are no longer the same. Different folks = different strokes (of the wings :)
Don't get caught up on names or families tagged behind some thing. Most of the time, it is just a sales pitch.
You say that you never seen them fly... question now goes to, why did you like them in the first place?
If you want good birds, don't get caught up on some name. Get birds that can do it right in the air and some one who has consistently flown them right for years to end.
If you want to see a short clip of this family in the air, drop me a email and I will direct you to the video. Just remember that this is just one of many possibilities one can find in any family of Rollers!!
