Alaska sled dog races are going I like to follow it each year. Lance Mackey has been pretty tough the last couple of years. The dogs are amazing and so are the crazy guys behind the sheds. bwinward

Took a trip to Alaska three years ago. In Denali we took a side trip to Jeff King's kennels. The highlight of the trip to me. It takes a special sort of person with exceptional animals to travel the more than 1,000 miles of the Iditarod. Lance Mackey is an amazing individual. This year's race is shaping up to be a good one. Lance is right in the mix (5th) with Jeff King right on his tail. Barring some misfortune, they'll both be strong contenders. I also check in on the race several times a day. Go to iditarod.com and check it out. Geo.

Sourland Jeff king will be tough this year.. last year Jeff sleep in while Lance mushed off in the night..LOl Lance has all 16 dogs still. The weather is not bad until they get out by the sea.. (heavy winds at times).. and away from the mountains. Bwinward
Type in.. Iditarod..In Current standings Box ..click on the individuals name and it gives you details. photos, times, history.

Lance's dogs are averaging 9.49 mph-Jeff King's slightly less. They are running far faster than anyone else. You're right King won't be caught sleeping this year. Tricky stunt by Lance last year. Geo.

Sourland I was reading the snow is really deep this year and makes it hard to see. The Moose find the trails because it is easy walking. The dogs and moose don't mix at times. A Musher passed 5 feetfrom a moose because of the snow banks on the sides and the onery moose will not get off the trails. bwinward
