---------- This is My Lavender cock that will be a focus point this year
And this is my black mottle cock bird. The tort hen hes with is very small and typey.
Butch @
Anyway, the plan this year is to go back and tighten up the genes. I`m planning to only breed from these two cocks. The lavander is going to go on 2 of my Black self hens out of my old family. The mottle cock is going on a red hen, the small tort hen, and a black badge hen with W/FL. These are all from my Jaconette line. Each hen has its own box, and I`m moving the cocks back and forth every day. Each of these birds has proven to me their worth in the air and the loft. The only real fault I ever found on any of them is the mottle cock spun blood in his eye one time as a youngster, but he was a nice 20 to 30 footer, and always kitted. It flew for 2 years and never had anouther problem. Soooo. What does anyone think of trying this? Its a lot of time, moving them around, but I will have a lot of birds all half bro/sis if it works, from both families.

Sorry for the size Tony, I thought I had them resized on Photobucket, but I must of done something wrong. When you feel its time to delete them its your call.
I was really just curious about the plan and how everyone else thought. Has anyone else done this type of breeding. I will be using a lot of fosters. Right now they are all in kitboxs. Everything I`ve bred from the last few years is in the kitboxs now, Along with the 08 holdovers. I`ll fly them all and try to pick the best for the WC fly. The leftovers will then be sorted to make some foster pairs. ---------- Butch @ Sundance Roller Lofts

Sundance, it is a good plan,I have done it before. It is a good way to find out where the prepotent birds are and the pairs to concentrate on. It is a live by the sword or die by the sword situation, but either way you will find out a lot about your birds. You do need to have a lot of fosters to make it work right. ---------- They gotta Spin to win.....Jay

The top pair are down from my original pair. A cock from Dick Stevens old stuff before the continental project and a red badge hen that goes back to the Russ Harter stuff, through Dick Davis. Ive only got two lavenders and this is the best of the 2, most were red or red badge, or blue checks. And an occasional self in red or black. The second pair are from 2 jaconette lines I merged. I get a lot of the mottle, tort and grizzle, but still a few selfs or similar with whte flights etc... I can mix a kit with the 2 families and Litterally anyone could tell the difference in the 2 families and pick them out in the kitbox, just by the pattern and look. These really arent good pictures though... ---------- Butch @ Sundance Roller Lofts

Ya Harrison, thats the jist of it. I`m sorta pimping him out.LOL The cock birds are like Birmingham Jigilos. the mottle bird gets about 4 hours with each hen a day, and spends the night with one of them. ---------- Butch @ Sundance Roller Lofts

Harrison, you can use three hens and one cock. I put the cock in with #1 when I go to work,#2 when I get home and #3 before I go to bed. It is about every 8 hrs or so. You need a bunch of foster to get in cycle and when you run out of fosters you need to let him raise a round with one of the hens, it gives him a break. ---------- They gotta Spin to win.....Jay

Butch,
Are you going to foster out the eggs? I would recomend you do, that is alot of work for a single parent. I wouldnt expect the cock to feed equally.
One thing I found when I've tried similar program before. The cock will often choose 1 hen he prefers over the other(s). Especially where you are moving the cock. They are territorial and like to own their own piece of the loft.
Absolutley nothing wrong with concentrating down though. Hopefully youve picked the right cocks to use. If it works you'll be years ahead, if not you've only used 1 season to learn who wa capable of producing. Good luck and let us know how things progress. ---------- Jon
