Okay, Here It is. I bread A moslty white Red Spangle Reed based hen(all is white, except for the head and neck) to a Reed based cock whith a hint of Jaconett, Typical Dark Grizzle with white flights. The eggs hatched yestersay afternon. The babies look fine, and im sure they'll make it. Now, what do ya'll think will turn out? What colors? What kind of performance? Maybe Good breeders?? Let me know what you think. Im not scared of criticisim, but pleae dont act an ass. Were in this to promote fellowship between Roller Men.

It's good to be excited this time of year with babies hatching, but I'm a bit superstitous about expecting too much too soon. It's kind of like grandpa saying don't count your chickens till they hatch. I would add to that don't count your rollers till they roll. I got 15 pairs due to start hatching this weekend but I'm not thinking I will have 30 babies flying in two months. One step at a time, hope they hatch, hope they get raised, hope they stay healthy, hope you get them trap trained without losing any, etc. , etc. Just be patient and enjoy them each step of the way. Be excited, but patient.

Well said Pumpkin Man. JC, these breeders could be the best stock in the world and I`d still be hesitant about trying to predict the outcome of a pair of squabs. It dont matter what breeder it is, everyone gets some bad ones, everyone gets some good ones. The percentages vary, but the fact is nothing about these birds can be accurately predicted... Except maybe the color of the babies from the pairing. But thats anouther subject, and its definately not my cup of tea... ---------- Butch @ Sundance Roller Lofts

Sapp, You are asking us to predict what kind of performers you may get and may some of them be breeders ... Any of us who attempt to answer that based on the information you gave us would be a fool. The only thing we could answer with any certainty is the babies will be Reed based. As far as color, they will be grizzle (which includes spangle and mottle) It depends on what is beneath the rec. red. You could expect blue/black base with bronzing and grizzle.
If you want us to speculate about the performance of these babies, you'll need to tell us about the performances of the parents. By doing so, you will have answered your own question. If you want to know how Reed birds typically perform, then ask that instead. ---------- Jon

sapp dont get mad over this everyone who replied didnt mean any sort of disrepect; they were just trying to help you and answer your question as best as they could.. some questions and things cant be answered and for the most part what is learned in this hobby is by experience and the fancier himself. also keep in mind that every loft isnt the same and loft to loft will vary even with the same family of birds. -joe v.

I was reading this thread and noticed were J.C. had stated:
====> "a hint of Jaconett"
Hmm... interesting. Some of the best spinners I ever had were Jaconettes which were acquired in the 80's from his Black Rain line.
NOTE: Below are some excerpts (words) from the man Richard Jaconette regarding this famous line of Birmingham Rollers.
[R. Jaconette:] "Black Rains father is a strong red check self of proper type. He is an outstanding 20-60 foot roller not lacking in velocity nor style. Black Rains mother is a light dun grizzled hen and I have witnessed none more frequent that she. Her velocity is more than adequate and she is a 10-15 ft spinner."
...and "As for #226, (Black Rain is a 10-30 foot spinner). She possesses exceptional velocity and is most frequent, never failing to return to the kit in a minimum of time. Personally, I have never witnessed a better competition Roller in the air. On the ground, in my estimation, one would be hard pressed to find a prettier Roller. Yes, color balancing of the performing Birmingham Roller will provide the serious flying fancier his just rewards." ===================================================================================== {P.S.} I thought some of you might want to read that passage and regain your focus. Spring break coming up!

Sapp, you should get a little of everything when it comes to color, as far as roll it is all up to what those birds you put together carry in them. Good luck! ---------- Sal Ortiz

Hey J.C. I would expect you would get grizzles from this paring, whether they are red or dark is hard to say with what you posted...The only way you are going to know how they are in the air or the breeding pen is to give it a whirl..I would expect you would air test them before breeding? I myself have some breeders that I have not seen in the air..I have to take the word of the breeders I got them from and fly the young out..

Bwaaahhh Haaaahaha You take yourself way too serious.
"ANd wishione, well.. Im not going to say what im thinkin about you hoss... "
Go ahead, tell me what you're thinking ... Im a big boy, I can take it.
THATS WHY I SAID "Let me know what YOU think", not "WHAT I KNOW!"
What I think, is you asked a question where you didn't provide us enough information to answer. You asked what kind of performance you might get. All you told is is the base family and what colors the parents are, not enough info. fella. If you want us to blindly guess and to do so only with positive responses, your in the wrong forum. This isnt therapy to make you feel good. I said, if you would have told us about the performances of the parents you would have answered your own question because the young will most likely perform similarly to the parents ... The prediction of how the young might fly ... cut and paste the parents performance description. If you already knew that then why ask ... ? I feel I have been respectful in answering, I didnt criticize, I surely didnt say what was really in my mind. I answered each of your questions, honestly and fully. I dont think Im an example of a 'hater', but I do tire of reading pointless questions, chat logs, and whining about the answers given here.
If you wanted a friendly wager, then ask for one. Im all for promoting fellowship in this hobby. Keep in mind "this hobby" is about performing rollers. Please keep an open mind when you ask questions.
