Last time I said I wouldent fly for acouple of weeks then acouple of weeks later its the same story. i lost one hen outta 8 yesterday,,, Bummer so im on lockdown for another couple of weeks... Man im tired of singing this song...LOL good luck to all in 09.

I got 2 kits been back in the kitbox almost 2 weeks now. I`m gonna fly one of them this weekend and see what happens. They have been in the loft all winter and are fat and lazy.
I give them milo 2 days and a mix the 3rd day to get the fat off without starving them. Hope it works.

I'll be putting a kit up for the W/C prelims but do expect to be DQ'd as I haven't been able to do any training yet due to BOP and we fly April 13th.To damn early in the season to have a chance.Unless they change the dates to be later in the spring in the future(and I doubt that will happen)guess I'll have to be happy just enjoying my birds in the backyard with any freinds who happen to drop by.That will tend to take any stress off of the situation. It is just not worth trying to train birds now and have them slaughtered by the hawks and henery and be left with just a Y/B team again for the good flying summer months.

Well my training for the WC suffered a big setback yesterday. A shark took the best bird in the A kit, a nice black white flight hen off my key pair. I pulled her brother this morning, he was the second best bird in the kit. Both birds were 07 birds who were headed for the stock loft immediately after the WC. Decided I couldn't afford to lose the cock so I pulled him. Will have to replace with two young birds and hope they develop quickly.

Joe, let me tell you a little bedtime story LOL
Last year I qualified by the skin of my teeth with a team that I wasn't happy with at all,I was seriously not going to fly the finals.
Then I lost two good ones out of the team, I said screw it,put a fork in it I'm done, and then I pulled the best hen and best cock out of the team for stock and told my buddy Kenny Billings that I'm not flying, but I added a few out of the B-team to round off the team.
Three weeks out from the finals I kept flying and Kenny kept telling me to let the next flyer in line know that he was flying.
I just kept procrastinating , then I started moving boneheads out others in,and the team actually started looking like a team,by far not my best team but I started thinking that at least I shouldn't embarrass myself, W/C finals day rolls around and they gave me a decent fly and put me well in the top ten, go figure, what is the moral of this story ? it aint over till the fat lady sings LOL

I have not had good luck this winter.
I lost 6 birds out of a-team to a snow storm that came in over the south mountains. Low clouds blew in then the storm later. Great skys when I put them up..storm just came in to fast.
Pay your money and fly with what you have we all have setbacks and we diffiantly can't predict what is going to happen on fly day for sure..we may have an idea but until you fly really can't be sure.
Wind, sore flights, weather, Bop, cats, sickness, overfly, feed, pull birds to breed..etc..
Its hard to get to the top in this hobby/sport but there is those who are ..consistant at doing it.

Scott,
I still plan to fly in the WC if I have 20 birds that will kit and do some spinning. Like you said once, even if it is a scrub kit.It is just so frustrating, I needed that hen to keep moving forward with that family. I have the parents mated back up and they are on eggs so maybe I can replace them. The hen that those birds are off is my key key bird and she is a 99 bird so don't know how many more I will get from her. The gems come so infrequently you just hate to lose them that way.

Joe, this sport isnt for the faint of heart that is for sure , I have gambled and lost more kits and birds more times than I can count.
The fact remains though that these babies are bred to fly and work , it is what they do.
On a positive note, I think that I have the best team that I've had in a very long time, now if I can just hold on to them, which is easier said than done.

Scott,
I'm with you brother. Faint of heart ain't my style, I just don't want a judge to have to come here and watch a poor kit. I've got some good ones coming up so hopefully they can fill in the holes in the next 2 months. Good luck in the WC brother. Maybe this is your year, I'm not quite as optimistic as I once was.

Im prepping up for WC square. I fly in about 1 month. I can for the most part fly year 'round here. Weather is my biggest enemy. Wind and wind and cold. Been flying birds, just on heavier feed ration. As weather warms I will change feed regimen to fit conditions. This yers team doesnt seem as good as last. I pulled a couple for stock and lost a couple more to var. causes. They havent gelled yet where they want to work as team. Lots of good individuals though. I hope to do well enough to qualify, that is my goal still.
I am optimistic, and excited. There are several really good flyers in my region, tough to get past them but enjoying the experience.

I flew one of my 2 kits today. They busted out of the kitbox like they knew what for. For the first 6 or 8 minutes they even kitted almost perfect. Gradually moving higher and higher. Some of these birds have been locked up for 2 or 3 years now.
Finally at about 200 feet a few tried to roll, but it was more a waterfall break, and very sorry looking at that. They also didnt seem to be getting back together and were scattered quite a bit.
Thats when I seen....HIM...
A cooper was coming from the west and went right through the middle of where they were, only he was anouther 100 feet higher or so.
Luckily, he didnt seen to even notice them and kept on trucking, hopefully all the way to Ohio ( sorry guys )
After about 40 minutes they all were back in the kitbox, er... a kitbox. ( I opened the traps to them all, thinking at least I`d get them in somewhere )
8 of the 20 went into a box they had been in before.
I can live with that for now.

Same thing here. I had started with 23 birds a month ago in one kit box and would fly and lock up for 10 days. We have sunny days in 70 degree highs and thought I would take half the day off and fly all my birds. Took the kids to school and let out the first kit which now had 15 in it. They flew slow and rolled good for being locked down. I had my eyes on two red checks for the A team already. As they came down to land they flew into my neighbors yard with trees and a BOP went after a red check and they both went down where I could not see them. After the birds trapped in I had 14 in that kit box. I am locked down for another 10 days to 2 weeks. We have a local fly on the 28th this month which was a delay from ealier this month due to BOP. It is really bad this year with all this cold weather and late rains.
70s aint bad but it is cooler here than normal. I have tomoatoe plants ready to plant but the ground is still too wet and we have frost here still most days. Bill C

This is going to be a tough one for me.....After the fall fly....I pulled 5 birds 4 stock...then I lost a couple birds to hawk attacks...I had a full A-team and B-team....now I have 20 in the A-team...and 8 in the B-team and that is all I have....I had an overfly too and lost half of the remainder of my A-team birds...so....I haved moved birds up from the B-team...FIELD PROMOTION!!!! LOL....I lost a bird to a Falcon....So I hope I can keep enough birds together.

The team is doing ok...they still have not molded together....lots of waterfalling and moving around in the kit...each bird trying to find its place...so to make a long story short....Dont know what will happen...but my hat is in the ring.....I do have some young birds to field my second team....rock and ROLL

Well....I do have a solution...ONE MORE KIT BOX>>>YAHOOO>>>

Right on fhtfire, same deal here I flew by the seat of my pants last season. I held over 20 from my comp team, really thats all I had, outta those I am breeding about 4 witch left me 8cock and 8 hens all broken up. ive tryed to test the waters and ended up loosing one of the hens.. bummer as she was one of the oldest holdovers I had, but the way things are going now I wont be short on birds this year. I started breeding in Nov and now I got a good 55 60 young.. Im flying reguardless just not now...LOL...1

I had an overfly 6 weeks or so ago.I was gonna put up the birds I had left in that kit and take the DQ rather than the DNF. I got almost half a kit from a couple of friends 3-4 days ago. Hopefully I can get them up and running in time.

I signed up and paid my dues for the W/C. I got 14 birds out this past Saturday for the first time to test the water…7 went to my old house and lost 7 birds. It has been 6 months since I moved from the old house about a mile and a half and they still didn’t forget the old house. Then I figured that from the sky, they see the old house. I really don’t what to do. If I can not get them settled in and in shape, then I will DNF. I am afraid to get the other kit out just yet. It is not easy rounding up birds from somebody else’s resident.

I am trying to get my ever first team together. I have 28 birds that I bred or acguired last year. Some are good. I am trying now to get the best 20 bird team together. I have elimated 3 of those. The guestion is which of the others need to go. The bottom 10 are so close (possibly culls to others) do not know which to fly.
Some of those are young (barely 6 months)and not doing anything. I might be hurting them flying them with the rest of the kit? My birds come in around 6 months so next month they maybe great.

This is fun though.

Things have really truned around here. Most days are good flying. The hawks are looking for love these days, doing hoops and fly like a roller coaster. I watched two today that didnt chase the birds one time but were out flying around.

It did scare the birds and a few skied out on me. But later came down. Here is my plan for right now. I have only 16 in the A team. ( Had 19 just two weeks ago) I am going to put in 7 or 8 more birds so I have 23 or 24 birds rolling. Then I will be training and take out the ones that come down early or are out flying/rolling on their own when they cant handle the feeding program I give them. That way I am not tempted to add a bird the last week but will take birds out of the kit instead. I found that was a much better way to prepare a kit of rollers.

If I add birds it throws the chemistry off and I usually end up with a cock or hen going out of the kit, and you know what happens they pull another bird out with them.

So hopefully I get them int here real fast. Added one today and hope to get them all in by this weekend and start prep fast. So I still will have two weeks to get ready once the best birds are in there. BIllC

Just kinda wierd, I thought this topic would get more input as this is the next big thing on the comp aspect. I know this site has alot of information and is a great place to talk rollers but, it seems like the WC is on the back burner...LOL maby its just me you know "ME" and if someone else posted the comment it would get the response I was looking for. Like how people were doing in reguards to the up and comming comp. I iwould have problly had more luck saying I had a ingrowm toenail or somthing more interesing.. Guess not to many ready for the up and comming W.C. With that said I really like this site but in my opion its going in a diffrent direction or maby it just what im looking for as nfar as information on current issues in reguards to flying Comp,,, no disrespect Tony as you created somthing worth lookin at,, and you also provide quality products at a affordable price an I do like that,, and am greatful... But its just amazing how not many have anything to say in reguards to the topic I posted...I know that there are alot of folks that just like rollers as I do. However this comp thing is new to me,,and in the past ive recieved alot of positive feed back in reguards to topics like this. I will be flying this Saturday 11th, and I am greatful for the region that picked us up dusted us off, made us feel good about ourselves and fed us a sandwich...LOL.. I am/We are truly Greatful!!! I read alot and here, that we are suppose to support one another,, good to finally be apart of that.. Thanx,Thanx Thank youguy's

Man...I am getting worried...my birds look like shit..LOL...I had my overfly like I had stated before and I pulled 5 birds from the Fall Fly team for stock and man...I really had to go to the bull pen...LOL...and it dont look good....Right now I have a total of 27 birds...that is it......three month ago I had 42 birds..how things change with one overfly and a couple hawk attacks....The team is doing a lot fo waterfalling....I hope I can pull them together once they get into training mode....the birds in the team have the spin..but the teamwork is all off....I will be moving birds in and out of the team trying to find the right mix in the coming weeks....I hope once I start flying the crap out of them and doing my secret stuff that they will come together....but I dont know man...anyway....I do not have what I had back in the fall fly....I will say...pulling those 5 birds for stock ripped the heart right out of the team...and right when I am getting the heart beat back...bam..overfly....anyway....only time will tell....Good luck to everyone....I hope I an pull a rabbit out of the hat...

I don't compete but had experience in other sports in competition so I like to say good luck to all of you who do.. your birds can make you look bad on fly day or themselves..but all and all its the anticipation the excitement the nervousness especially the new guys on their first fly . but remember its also about the getting together and having a good time that's the fun part but what ever happens.... Enjoy The trip..

Yea Flip& fhtfire thanx for the input. I had about 22 holovers and four I decided to get acouple of rounds outta, and that left me with like 18 or so I lost acouple and I was to the wire about a week ago. I have alot of birds to start training however that is on hold till the fly is over... I dont want some lost bird interfering with the kit. Other than that all is well today was a open day in my prep program and the birds worked well,, and kited well so hopefuly they will do OK this saturday. The big picture was to have two kits avilible during this fly however you cant always go off the calender to determine when the sky's are frendly. But now im flying the frendly skys....just lookin foward to flying some rollers. Being picked up by this region "Great Group Of Rollermen" is kinda like getting selected for the draft..LOl or on a smaller scale the "School Yard" to be a part of the team....Just I/We are just happy to be picked.. Good Luck Bro's and Ill keep u posted...Also is anyone is intersted to see the folks of the K.C.R.C fly feel free to come up especally adjacent Regions. We will be flyin about 5kits give or take 1. We are lookin for all interested. I will have more specifics mid week or feel free to give me a call@(661)340-2793. I will be flying first and the remainder of kits are in Bakersfield.Thanx for you time ...Truly
