I keep my hens and cocks separate except when breeding in individual cages. The hens rarely pair up, but of course it does happen. I put my breeders together Sunday night and when I came home Thursday evening one pair had an egg. I am pretty sure they have paired up and the cock is sitting on the egg, but isn't that too quick for her to have laid? Is it possible for a pair to produce an egg so quick after pairing? I am thinking she may have been paired up with another hen and had the egg brewing already. Even so do you thing the cock could have fertilized it? If he likely didn't, I would like to pitch it quick to get them started again. I want them to be as close to on time with the rest of my birds as possible.

Jb, I think it might be filled.. I would wait 3-4 days and check if there is a little guy in there or not and then pitch it if it was not filled. Good luck..

Kevin with pigeons you can touch the eggs and the birds won't mind I had love birds and if I touch their eggs they won't sit on them..cockatiels too .if you want feed the birds and when they go eat take the eggs and check on it .I just finish lifting a hen off a dummy egg I had put under her was waiting for her to lay the second egg ,I had pull the first so she can sit on them both at the same time so I put both eggs and she went right back on them... just make sure your hands are clean you don't want to clog up the pores and handle the eggs with care ,watch out if she slap your hand and you drop the egg out of being surprise.. good luck..
