Those metal tin roofs are noisey if the birds hit one. I have had a bird hit the neighbors tin roofs and it scares all the bird up again.
I use exterior plywood and primmed and painted it white to resist the heat. Then I painted big bulls eyes on them. I can't really say it has helped the birds when they sky out or on an overfly but it makes me feel good.
I'm sure the helicopeters get a big laugh and many jokes on me. They must think it is for atracting UFOs and Aliens to my back yard? bill c

I have peel and stick roofing on my kit boxes. You can find it at a roofing supply.Just take the backing off the back and stick it right to the ply wood with metal around the edge.Make sure it is around 70 degrees outside so it will stick. If it is to cold it will not stick. Brian

Rolled roofing comes in rolls of 36" by 30 ft long.Shingles come in bundles and I don't like using shingles because of the nails coming through on the inside.

Sheet metal roofs are great! They have a lifetime gaurantee and no hotter than any other kind of roofing material.Of course the lighter the colour, the less they will conduct heat.Put roofing felt down before you put the metal to prevent condensation on the inside of roof. The edges are sharp so I put that tubular foam pipe insulation on the front section so that when the birds are coming in at breakneck speed to get away from a BOP,they will not be sliced open if they hit the edge of the roof.Had that happen once and it was heartbreaking, especially because the W/C prelim judge was here to witness.Birds like to land on the insulation stuff and don't slide down the roof so easy.If you contact a roofing contractor, often they have lots of scrap pieces they will either give you or sell cheaply. ---------- Kel. They also make a fiberglass and a plastic sheet that looks like the metal roof. They are not too expensive, but I think if I was building anouther Id go with the rolled roofing, But remember it comes in a 30 foot roll and you`re gonna have a lot left over (waste maybe) ---------- Butch @ Sundance Roller Lofts

Hi Guys i like the metal up here in Canada & i use plywood first then strap that with 1x2 & put styrofoam in between & then the metal. I find this keeps the coup cooler in the summer &warmer in colder weather. For what it is worth Bob in Ontario

I've seen metal roofs, but it just seemed to me the birds wouldn't like landing on them as well as they would rolled or shingle roofs. I may be wrong but I also figured it may get hot on their feet when I locked em' on top of the box for a few hours in the training cage during the summer. I personally like shingles best. I used one package of shingles on my last double-kit box 3' deep x 8 ' long. They hold up better than the rolled roofing too since lapping them gives a little more thickness. JMO

I was told as a lad by an old school roller man that he had tin roofs bcause if the birds hit the shed they bounce off as if the shed had an hard roof they would just splatt. Also have your roof an a slope with the slope coming down into the garden so the pigeons would roll off the roof and go into the garden if they hit it. Makes sence to me. yours harrison uk. its called corregated sheeting.

I have an eight by twenty two silver tin patio roof.It was there long before the birds. They have used it for a landing zone since day one.I must say that I do think it has saved a few birds from dying when they have bumped coming in. It has a certain amonut of bounce as long as they dont hit a joist. I like the "alert" it gives me when one does hit. ---------- V99 blue sky single beat in cadance performing now earth beckons the winged drawn breath is let quickly forth orchestral movement follows

Dont use the metal roof...you live in California...and you will cook your birds. Trust me...been there done that.....they get so hot you cant even touch them.
Use wood...or use the plastic ones at home depot..the plastic ones at home depot are also white and they reflect the sun. They are also easy to cut...just use a utility knife or tin snips (you can get those at home depot too.
But dont use the tin....if you lived in a different climate that would be fine...
