Just came in from the loft, and as I was out there a flock of more than 15 redtails came by my place.
There were 3 or 4 crows on the outside edges harassing them. It was wild to see so many redtails alltogether like that. I'll be glad when they move on so I can start flying my birds.
I am in south central PA. Anyone else starting to see the hawk migration happening in their area?

Here in kansas red tails are as common as sparrows, there everywhere. In the spring we get mass migrations of them. I think they all stay in kansas lol. Any time now they will be coming through and its not uncommon to see hundreds of them up soaring around. I know this sounds unbeleiveable, but its true. After that they go into there mating games which is really a site to see, I just wish they would do all this somewhere else. Jim Bowen

Jim, I've got tons of redtails around right now. I was visited by my first sky shark on Thursday and he took the best bird in the kit. I have found generally speaking that the redtails don't bother my birds and they tend to keep the sharks at bay. ---------- Keep em Spinning Joe

Redtails rarely bother me. I have a pair nesting nearby and they chase off the Coopers. If any of my birds are dumb enough to be caught by a Redtail then they would be a cull anyway. ---------- Just My Take On Things

Thanks Nicksiders, appreciate the info on that. I have heard people say that their birds can outrun a redtail, but the way you put it....makes very good sense!

I'm seeing my local Red tails nesting here in central Kentucky now. I've never lost a bird to a red tail, just Coopers. I see Coopers nearly every day still.

I've seen pairs of red tails get under a kit and run them up clean out of site and work them for hours and hours. They are two big and slow to get them but they will loose them for you. They will ruin a fly for you.

We almost always have redtails in our area (Dewey AZ) They don't bother the rollers at all. (freaks them out at 1st and the rollers get scattered out of the kit but never has the redtail attempted to or killed a roller) He keeps a close watch on the neighbor's chickens tho.

I live in York county, so we call it "south central" I guess. About 45 minutes straight north of Baltimore.
