1/2" X 1" welded wire.If you use plywood, you'll be scraping shit all the time.

Put a shelf under the welded wire of wood and make a drawer for easy cleaning. JDA

Unless you want to breath a lot of dust you should use wire floors. All the lofts that I have been in with wood floors have a ton of dust. Some of it you cant see unless the sun is going down on it. Plus it would be a mess if you want to give your birds a bath. They should be given baths regularly because it helps with the dust and bloom on the feathers. Bill

1"x2" wire won't clog up. But you need a drawer under it or go with smaller wire. I like this size but a mink or weasel could probably get through it, also a coon's paw. It's more work with wire floor with drawer under it, but you'll have no regrets.

Birds sometimes stick there heads into the wire and panic untill they kill themselves. Although I still use wire floors this is is always on my mind.

Keep in mind also that wire floor invites rodents. Those rodents, even if you don't see them, can bring desaster to your loft.

Sorry, I thought the question was about the breeder loft. I use 1x2 in my kit box and a tray to catch the dropping.
