Tough question Jerry as there are many varieties of tumblers. Probably hundreds of different tumbler breeds originated in Europe and Asia. My recommendation would be to do an online search and get an idea what the various tumbler breeds look like and then compare them to a roller. Levi's "Encylopedia of Pigeon Breeds" is another good source if you have access to it, possibly in your local library.

Jerry, I would say that the difference lies in the Spin of the roller as opposed to the dives of a tumbler. Rollers have a very uniform spin whereas tumblers don't necessarily have to spin, they are mostly diving or very shallow rolls or a combination of both. Just my .02. If you get a chance to watch some Catalonian Tumblers, you'll see what I mean. They are jaw droppingly agile birds that can smoke most falcons just by out maneuvering them in the sky.

Yes & no, there are tumblers that have a very close resemblance to Birminghams. Catalonians are extremely similar in looks but they are a different bird all together. They come in all colors & patterns & have the same basic shape & size. Once you fly them, you would see the difference quickly. They kit well but their performance is like steep banking dives whereas your rollers....well, you know what they do. There are some Middle Eastern breeds of tumbler that look extremely different. Send me an email & I'll gladly introduce you to some of these neat "tumblers". brudahpete@gmail.com

You're right JDA but the wests are mostly muffed as well. David Curneal (spinning demons) is trying to get a bunch of us together to restore the wests as a performing breed. I think he'll pull it off.
