Hi, Jim: I think that if you looked into the background ( pedigree ) of these birds, you would find that they were at some period crossed with a crested variety of roller -- Hungarian, Budepest high flier etc.etc. and possibly a variety of frill, by the look of some of their chests. The so called ears are just a partial crest by the looks of them and by no means am I demeaning your birds. If you are happy with them, great. George D.

George/Mike,
The crest and the "devil ears" are only formed once the pigeons have rolled and it only last between 45 sec to 3 minutes after the birds have settled. The rolling action forms the ears. This is not the normal look of the birds.
I have only seen birds roll and devil ears form in two lofts namely my own and Hannes Rossouw's loft. ---------- Jim "Mason" http://www.devilear-roller.co.za Member of NBRC

Hey Jim, I remember hearing a story about these birds. Do they have some Norm Reed blood in them? Also that hen must really be a screamer..I see her breast feathers are ruffled as well..

George it is from birds working and will lay back down,it has nothing to do with what you described below.

Scott,
The birds dont have a crest, the ears only appear after the roll. They have no link to the birds you mention above and have never been introduced to any of those either.
The family these birds are bred from have ended in the top 5 for the worlcup from 2000 to 2008. We only started participating in the world cup in 1999.4 second plsces and 1 fifth place.

Jim..I have one out of Don Pinney birds. RC cock...very fast and around 30-45 feet. He really busts butt...and maintains his 'ears' for 30 minutes or so. Bruce ---------- De Oppresso Liber

Hi, Jim: I was under the impression that your rollers had the "ears" all of the time and not just after rolling. I also have a couple of very fast spinners that come back with their chests looking messed up but have never seen them come back with ears. I stand corrected! George D.
