Hey Guys,
I need to purchase a company vehicle for my personal use and have narrowed my selection down to the following:
1. Tundra Crewmax Limited Edition or/ 2. Chevy Silverado 1500 CrewCab LTZ
Do any of you already own one of these trucks? Any problems with either truck? Feel free to share your recommendations.
Thanks in advance!
Russ
PS: Tony, if you have to delete this I will understand.

Russ, Two thing here. First I own a Tundra and I love it. Second, A chevy is the only vehicle that has ever left me stranded. It was a brand new truck and I got rid of it a couple weeks later. Joe ---------- J.M.Urbon Lofts A Proven Family of Spinners http://www.freewebs.com/jmurbonlofts/

Babyshoes,
The Tundra is also made in AMERICA .
One plant is in Princeton Indiana and the other plant is in San Antonio Texas. I agree with you 100% in supporting AMERICA first.
Thanks for your comments!

Birdman,i think u should take time on either the Tundra, chevy or what suites ur work but not all are unbrakeable it's mostley depend on the operator and keeping it maintance, but some make and modle are longer lasting and no one else is gonna pay for it except u just make good judgement pararoller

Russ,
The Toyota. Better ride; more towing capasity. You are right; it is American made. The Chevy has more parts made overseas than the Toyota ---------- Just My Take On Things

Hey Russ.....this sounds like a "loaded" question..LOL Couldn't resist that one.. To me it's a matter of personel preference. I'd get the Silverado myself. They both will do the job for you. Kinda like,do you like hens or cockbird better? It's all a matter of personel preference, my friend. One more thing....What can the pocket handel as far as $$$$....lol

OK, so the Tundra is out because of the bed-bounce issues.
Has anyone tried the 2009 Ford XLT w/ 6 speed trans? I drove one last night and it's a nice truck, comfortable ride, but there is a noticeable hard shifting at low speeds. Is this normal for that trans?

I'm very happy with my '08 Silverado 2500 HD 4x4 with a V10 Vortex 6 speed tranny (company truck of coarse), but still a BA truck.
We've had about 14 hrs of rain today and I drove around our new tank construction site all day and never missed a lick! My co-workers kept a backhoe busy all afternoon pulling out their Fords! LOL

Well, howdy, then . . . I'd love to know your thoughts/experiences on Dodge Cummins -- the new 6.7 Liter Cummins -- I've heard that they don't measure up to the old 5.9's and that the transmission goes out early?
I've been driving a Ford 350 Powerstroke for 10 or 12 years and never had much trouble at all, but I love the look of the Dodge and really love the Mega Cab. Thinking of switching. I have the 7.3Liter and looked for and wide for it when I bought it, because that year (2003) they were discontinuing it and building the 6.0's. I only have 90K miles on it (because I only drive it when I'm hauling) so maybe I'm a fool to change.
Are any of you familiar with the 6.7L Cummins? Anything to be wary of?

Well,
I had an 01 Dodge Diesel..Old Body style..Truck was a Piece of shit....then I bought an 03 and had it til 07 and loved it...BULLET PROOF...not one problem and I did ALOT of towing....then Ihad an 07 dodge diesel...but sold it becuase I never drove it..but the Dodge is the best diesel truck...PERIOD....no ifs ands or buts.......as far as the transmission....you get them across the board.....that have issues...I have friends with dodge trucks that tow all over and have 180,000 miles on the trans....My buddy owns a transmission shop and he gets them all....even the Allison.....but as far as the cummins motor...it is the best hands down.....the new one is not the old one but still everyone I talk too...is happy with the new cummins...I currently drive an 04 Chevy Half ton.....lifted....and happy with that too..

Thanks, Paul. That's what I'm hearing.
Did you know that Autozone can plug your vehicle into their computer and read the codes, just like your dealership can?
Took mine tonight and when they plugged it in, it didn't light up, so I pulled out the book, looked up the fuse, put a new fuse in and it registered.
Computer says no codes. I replaced the fuel filter today because it was stalling on me and the emission light was coming on. Dealership wants SO MUCH $$ to put it on their computer.
Do any of you know if Autozone's computer is reliable? Is it the same as the dealership?
If so, what a rip off the dealership is dealing out!
Now, I've decided not to take it in, and watch what will happen -- I'll get stranded and stuck with a big tow bill! lol

Yes they are the same at autozone....the can plug it in and read the codes but they cant "flash" it...or put in new software....if you have a diesel...always keep a spare filter in your truck...and make sure you have the right size socket and extension..I think it is a 1" socket to get the filter lid off....If you get bad diesel..it can mess up your filter.....just remember once you put the filter in...turn the ignition on and off like 5 times..everytime you turn the ignition on you will here a little zoop sound..that is pushing the air out of the lines...and it should start right up...if it sputters...shut it off and do the ignition thing again....

Laura,
I bet you AutoZone tried to check the code when the car was not running. Try it when the car is running and the code will display for you. I bet your problem is the Crankshaft case sensor. Do you know that if you go to Murry’s, they can even turn the “Service Engine Soon” light off for you! Good luck.

Hi Russ,
check out JD Power depedability ratings here: http://www.jdpower.com/autos/ratings/dependability-ratings-by-category/large-pickup
It shows that the Tundra is head and shoulders above the rest on dependability.
As for the "buy Americas" argument, 90% of the content in a Silverado is US or Canada, while the Tundra is 80%
Finally, who do you want standing behind the warranty, the US government or Toyota! LOL

Ken, thanks for that link. My youngest son drives a 2003 Tundra and my oldest son drives a 2005 Tacoma. So far both truck have been trouble free. Right now I'm leaning toward the new 2009 F150 Lariat SCrewcab.

JT, that is about the correct price if you do it at the dealer or at a mechanic shop. The part itself cost around $60. The new cars are all computerized. It represents the timing mechanism in the old days. Remember when you put the flashing light to set the timing correctly on a car in the old days? Today's cars or trucks are self adjusting thru the sensor.
In most cases it doesn't need replaced. There is a lens on the sensor that reads the revolution and after a while the lens becomes dirty from oil and other dirt and block it's reading ability and start act funny. It will cause the car "hard starting" as the starter not engaging fast enough, then the car starts to stall.
In most cases, when you take it out and wipe it off with a rag and put it back in, your problem is solved. But here in America, we just replace things instead of fixing them.
