try staying out of the cage. just go in when you feed them. If You don't know the difference between a cock and a hen watch them after the evening feeding or ask someone in your area for help. good luck.

Kevin take one out and leave him alone in his cage the one you think is a male for a couple of hours or a day feed then up and put the other one in and see if he start cooing her.keep an eye if he does a complete circle usually the males does the complete circle and the hen does the half a circle just try it won't hurt to.. if anything then put a hen that you know is a hen to see what happens.play around with it ..if you have a pic post it up so we can see them both.. ---------- Ralph.

H guys. I was having the same problem with my birds and when they did end up laying they left them to go cold. In the end I ended up splitting my pairs for a few weeks and then put them back in the breeders again.(Cocks first for 1week then the hens follow) I tried the feeding Twice daily with a hand full of hemp before each feed and bingo. This time they all laid within 2 days of eachother so its all go from here. I have had one broken egg and apart from that they all seem settled and just doing there jobs. Isnt it mad how the pigeons mostly sit in the same direction? My birds sit on there eggs facing towards the front of the boxes in line with the right hand side corner. Basickly there back ends are in the back left corner and there heads the front right corner. and nearly all my birds are sat on the eggs this way? any strange reason? thanks guys harrison uk.

Iowa,
If you just have the two birds in a pen it makes it easier to tell. If they are both cock birds one of them will be the dominant bird and he will have claimed the nest box. The subordinate cock may look like a hen and just be staying out of the top cock's way. Cock birds coo longer and more vigorous and prance around and will drag their tails. If there is a hen and a dominant cock the hen will let him chase her, she will drag her tail too sometimes but she won't blow her crop up and coo as much. If they are both cocks one will just stay out of the boss cock's way. Watch their body language. If they were both hens they would be laying whether or not a cock is in their pen if all other conditions (plenty of feed and clean water) long day length or artificial light etc.

Iowaroller If you wormed them and.. over dosed it.. they will not lay for a few months. Hopefully they have not started to cycle..more protein will help that. bwinward

Last year I bought a pair of birds in and they came with 2 squeekers. They whent straight down in one of my boxes and raised 2 more young. They were a blue pide cock and check hen. I lost the cock and have still got the hen. I tried to pair her up to a cock and she had non of it. I put her in the kit box and she paird up srtaight away (TO A HEN) I started thinking that I could be wrong and that this could be the cock but I ended up with 4 eggs in one nest pan. I have her in a cage now with a cock and she will not have any of it? The young from last year are ace and I realy want to breed out of her but it just aint happerning. I have tried keeping her away from other birds but still no look. Could anyone tell me what I could do ? She will get smashed all over the box by a cock but never gives her self up? PLEASE HELP. yours in roll harrison uk hull.
