I use a feed holder and a water holder that you set on the outside of the breeder box. This is probably the best way because if you set it on the inside the birds will crap in it and you definately dont want that. I herd alot of good things and bad things in regards to the Turner birds. Every family have good traits and bad traits remember that. No one family is perfect. If there were some perfect birds everyone would have them.

This is STRICTLY my oppinion and we all know that my oppinion dont mean squat. lol

Welcome Fred! My breeder boxes are about 30"W x 36"D x 24"T, they have more than enough room. You could cut all those dementions by 6' and still be enough. I use bullet waterers from Tony or gallon milk jugs with about a 2" hole cut in them on one side, they both work fine. I suggest a covered bowl for feed, but mine are just heavy cereal bowls. I just give them about a 1/4 cup a day until the young hatch and then I increase it little by little as the babies grow. Mine seldom poop in the bowls, but I guess its the added size to the breeder cage, they have plenty of room to hang out in the back on the perch and nestbox. My boxes arent made to have outside feed and waterers or I would go that route.

Just do what you can when getting started and improve the things that aren't working as you go. Money is tight here so I just make improvements where and when I can.

I agree with Big Willy, just depends on where you got the Turners and how good the breeder was before you. Your management will play a big part in how successful you will be with them. Some do very well with them and some don't, same as any family!

Good luck and feel free to ask questions when needed?

Its nice to see at least a couple guys give an answer to the original post without focusing on just the turner birds.
You will find that pigeons are uncapable of complaining and thus will be quite satisfied with whatever you put their food and water in. It is up to you as a breeder to keep it sanitary for them in order to keep illness to a minimum. Good luck. Joe

Fred,

I have bought various kinds of waterers and feeders over the years to the expensive waterers with dust covers over the holes from Global Pigeon Supplies which are very nice to just using orange juice jugs that I cut a hole in the side of. You can also buy feed cups from a pigeon supply store like global or foy's or just make your own. It really doesn't matter. What matters most is that whatever you use stays clean. If what your using has a lot of feces in it when you go to feed and water you should either use something else or position the conatiners to avoid contamination. The only times I ever had sick birds in the past was because of my laziness in not changing the water everyday. Good luck - this is a great hobby that is very enjoyable.
