I have found over 10 days it is hard to get them on. Under 7 days and they get them off and the bands are lost forever. I try around 9 and 10. Good luck ---------- RT Williams

LittleJohn, I band at seven to eight days depending on their size. I always check them for the next few days to make sure they have not lost their band. Thom

Well, today is day 5 and they are growing like wildfire...these bells are really good parents...and they are constantly gettin fed....both parents are doing a fine job.
I had planned to band them this wednesday, which would be 7 days...so maybe I will wait until thursday and go for it then?
Thanks for your help guys...I have never banded a bird yet, all the ones I raised as a kid were unbanded....didn't know they needed them....my how things change.

I band 7 - 10 days and like stated above always check the next day. I use the size 7mm roller bands on my birds but if you are late banding you can use a 8mm racing homer band. ---------- Ty Vapor Trail Lofts

If you're a day or two late spit on their foot it will lubricate the leg and the band will go on. With practice you can tell by looking if they are too big or small to band and won't have to count days.
