Hi all

I would like your opinion, on the quantity of birds rolling and the depth factor.

Only 3 caught my eye, but not much depth. No score in my opinion. Could have been kitting tighter, too loose. A "bust" for a break.

hi all
jim you can never tell what the birds are rolling like on video.but to be honest what i could see from your video the birds seemed to be twizzling + not rolling propperly though i could be wrong.and knowing the birds in s/a i probaly are wrong.unlike tony none caught my eyes.by the way if your using w/c rules + you flew 20 you would not score any thing as i only counted 18 lol.

j, when I say "caught my eye" I did not mean I thought what I saw was good. Just that they stood out over the others...but there was nothing good about the 3 that was scorable...am I making sense to you? ;-)

Hi John you are correct. Anybody trying to videotape a kit knows it is very misleading. If you can trust me the quality in the kit is min 1.5. I am trying more to get a discussion going around the size of the break and the depth. Here goes another 2 video clips, let see if this helps. Video 2

Video 3

hi jim
i found the 2nd clip much better although still too hard to judge Q oe D but they looked to be rolling quite deep.based on the 18 i think i would have scored them a break of 8 .im now letting myself in for a load of abuse lol.but at least its my opinion.
by the way jim who/s birds are they.

Are these the same kit? The one that you opened with was not nearly as good as the next two clips.

I`d say same kit all 3 vids. vid#1 and vid #3 were days with a judge or friends. Vid #2 was when you are the only one in the yard. LOL I thought the #2 vid did look like a better break, a couple looked like good depth in there.

This is how I would have called em.
Video # 1 the ist break was not scoreable they were obscured from view.
The 2nd break was a 3 bird break
# 2 video they were water falling ..non scoreable
#3 at the end there was a 4 bird break.
Overall videos there were about 4-5 birds doing max. 20 ft.
The videos were not clear enough to get the quality.

I think these birds would look better in real life also. Cameras just do not do justice. But for the depth, every bird rolled is at least 10 feet and several were 30 to 40 feet. If you put a man standing up in the middle of those breaks you would see 6 feet easily. Add four feet to the man and you have 10 feet.

There are some bird that are diving with the group and not rolling, they are just going down with the group in all three videos even though some would think it is a big break and most judges would count it as 15 I would think. They do not have the option to reivew it 6 times Like I did and see each one rolling depth. They have to use periferal vison and see the seperation and if they focus on the best ones they will see better quality but if their eyes go to the slower roller then they will see less quality. Every Judge would be diffent, that is why we all have the same pre-lim judge to get best over all winner of the day. I think at least half the kit or more was actually rolling and only four or five birds dropping. so the breaks were around 10 to 12 bird breaks. I think it was easy to see half the birds breaking were 30+ feet deep with the others around 10 feet. Bill C

all the videos didn't have enough time on there to really to tell and the birds was a little to far away to really to tell what they was doing...............donny james

Man here I go, foot in my mouth ... It is too difficult to evaluate quality enough to score from a video as pointed out above. Based of the estimated depth and breaks being initiated cleanly I would have to say vid 1 something like 8 birds, vid 2 in the 10 bird range and vid 3 5-8 birds. like Nick says, in real life you dont get to rewind and review. It would be nice if the clips went a cpl secs longer to evaluate seperation a bit more.
Depth, I would guess 20 ft avg with a cpl in the 30 range. vid 1 shortest avg, vid 2 deepest avg. It does look as though several are dropping or turning back, creating activity but not really rolling, this happens alot in teams and often gets scored, thats why its hard to score based in a video clip, the quality doesnt show accurately. There are birds in each break that dont appear to roll deep enough to be scoreable. I would award something like 1.3-1.4.
