Hi, I am just getting started in rollers, but have never heard of this. I have a one year old hen that has layed four eggs and is trying to set on all of them. I have no other hens to put two of the eggs under so what do I do now.? Do you think any of them will hatch.? Would she be able to feed four.? thanks for the help. Fred

Fred, Welcome!! I will be surprised if any of them are fertile. I think you have two hens and they both laid two eggs. Thom

When the eggs are 4-5 days old, you can candle them and see if their any good. You should be able to see blood veins in them if they are fertile.
Just take a small flashlight out at night and hold it under each egg and you should be able to see inside of them. If any aren't fertile get rid of them and the hen will be more likely to handle the rest. I have had a hen do fine with 3 eggs. They also should look about the same as far as the developmental stage of them! If 1 or 2 are way more developed, they will be larger and over power the smaller ones.
Make sure your hands are clean when you candle them and pick them up in a way that if she slaps or pecks at them, they are protected by your hand. I have had them knock them right out of my hands before!
Good luck! Never know till you try! ---------- Val

Fred. How far apart were the eggs hatched from each other? Should let us know if its 2 hens, or they excited to breed layed apart and layed again. If you know for sure its a cock and hen, Id throw the eggs out and start over again.

Are you sure they are hen and cock? I have seen 2 hens pr up and act just like a breeding pr. I would guess this or a second young hen just needed somewhere to lay and saw a ready made nest. I've never had a hen lay 4 eggs, but not saying it can't happen.
Let us know if you figure it out! ---------- Val

I bet you guys are right. I just bought them and the guy I bought them from said they were a cock and a hen. I bet they are two hens. Now.......... I have one cock that has no hen. How can I breed both hens to one cock. Should I put all three in one breeding cage? Any help will be appreciated. Fred

Well I am going to humor this for just a second and just ask Rod were you got that information. I believe as the rest have stated that you have yourself 2 hens and dont worry about breeding 2 hens to 1 cock. Just put a pair together because at this point its pretty obvious that you really dont know anything about them anyway. Put them together and hope for the best.
