Looks good Superxroller, you may want to consider a different style of trap door. Rollers are pretty smart, and it appears they may be able to move the bobs to one side and fly out or even worse a cat or some other small animal could also get in. just a thought. Good luck, your headed in the right direction.

SuperRoller all I can say is that is great, your next one will be even better because you have the idea now and the feel keep up the good work ...try to get a large board for the top roof that goes out about 6 inches I can see where the rain might slip through in the corners and its very important in keeping a dry loft to prevent disease...ok..

SuperRoller, My first box was an old kitchen cabinet nailed to a tree. It held four birds and was secured with a bungee cord. Ralph is exactly right, keep them and all feed dry, dry, dry, dry! Have fun, next to the welfare of your birds that is what matters the most.

Thanks for the advice fellas. I am in Minnesota. I need to make a few minor changes. I have no birds in there yet so there really is no hurry.

I was really thinking i would train my birds to trap using the main door. When i call them in. I looked at many kitboxes and I created one that is easy to build with what I had. Trap is not done. I just needed some more ideas.

As long as the kit box keeps them dry and secure you are off to a good start. Give it a good paint job and some roofing shingles. Take the advice about a better trap door, regardless to whether you plan on using the main door. You will need the trap, believe me. Reminds me when I first got started. Good feeling isn't it! Best of success, get some birds to fly, and be patient! Congratulations on your first box!

You might want to paint the outside of it to make it last longer. Particle board generally doesn't hold up as well as plywood but you could get several years out of it with a paint job. If you don't paint it it will turn a grey/black moldy kind a color after a year or so. Good going with what you have available when starting out.

Superxroller, Nice box, It should work great, keep them dry, clean water and something to eat and your birds will love it. best of luck.
