Flew the young birds for 10-15 minutes yesterday. All trapped but one, sitting up on the shed, taking in the sun, then I see a hawk circling, same one that has hit twice before this season. I started waving my hat, and hollerin at it, but in the end I think it was probably the glare off the top of my bald head, that finally ran him off.
Bird trapped, and all is well, finally got in a decent fly without having to make another sacrifice. Talk about a close call.

Our local walmart sell's owl decoys. Put one on a poll and move its location every other day and take it down somedays.Never let it sit in the same spot or they will get used to it. It's no full proof but it helps. ---------- Ty Vapor Trail Lofts

My worst nightmare has been realized, I have a pair of Cooper's Hawks terrorizing my competition kit every time I release it. Must be nesting nearby as they have been here for over a month. ---------- Keep em Spinning Joe

The owl decoy worked for the first try, I took it back down and will put it up before I fly again. Two redtails came in, circled and then left, and I didn't see any sign of the coopers.
It was a good day.

My resident hawk lives near my loft (30 feet or so). It roosts every sunset at my neighbor's tree. Talks about nightmare. I only fly my birds when it is not around, but my homers are still gets taken. This problem prevented me from having rollers. Obviously, I have this problem for 2 years now and 50% of my birds are either injured or killed by this hawk, but because hawks are protected species I am not going to do anything with it, but just fly my birds when it is not around. Pray that you don't have a resident hawks. I have to add that I on occasion see falcon as well.

I got hit by a hawk Friday evening, I was just realeasing my kit and they were still coming out of the kit box and starting to circle when something caught my eye that did not seem right when I looked in that direction all I saw was feathers floating down. I quickley looked around to see if I could see where it was but never saw anything. When I got my birds down I was missing one that would have matched the feathers I saw. It must have been perched near by because I always make it a habbit of watching the sky to see if anything is flying around before realeasing my birds and did not see anything but was hit withing about 15-20 seconds after I opened the kit box. From now on I will walk around and check trees telephone poles etc., before realeasing my birds. John
