Had a hen yesterday that went up for the first time this year, and made a couple of circles and then made a crash landing in the grass...went to pick her up and she flew back to the shed and crash landed on the shed...and was dizzy and stumbling around like she was drunk.

Beforehand I saw her drinking from a small bit of gas my son had spilled on the pavement, and thought it may have made her sick....but now I finally realized after much thought....she just ran out of gas.

Seriously though, anyone else ever had this happen?(minus the gas joke) I am going to pull her tonight and feed her up and put her back in the kit box in a few days.

Littlejohn,
Has this hen laid any eggs lately? If so it may be a case of parathyroid. This is a Vitamin D deficiency, if so give her some vitamin D oil or capsules and she should be okay in a couple of days. I keep some vitamin D and A capsules on hand as I have had this problem occasionally in the past.

had this happen twice and one bird i sold to the petshop. it was that bad the. the birds would fly a short period of time then crash landed. walking dizzy and drunk then the bird can still fly. both bird were just used perviously for breeding, and it was only till after i bought them back to the kit is when this happend, some birds can shake it off faster then others though.

She is OK today, I am giving my birds vitamin water for several days a week. The rest of the time they get apple cider vinegar water.

I think she may just need a little extra feed, and some time in the air to get her strength. She hasn't bred. or even been interested in breeding, a very passive personality from what I have seen from her so far.

We finally got all my sons fireballs back from their expedition yesterday, so I will actually be able to fly my birds tomorrow.

I will watch her and see how she does, but my young birds that I am flying are getting strong on the wing, so I will for sure keep an eye on here trying to keep up with them.

Thanks for the help.
