put the dog in a pen by its self while the birds are out and when you tape their wings use electrical tape and go tape up 6 to 7 permraies (those are the outer feathers)and tape up 1 side ................donny james

I dont think electrical tape is a good idea its too stick and leaves the sticky residue, I think masking tape is better and the blue masking tape is even better because it doesnt leave that sticky residue just my opinion and about the dog put on a leash on the oppisite side of the yard. and slowly get him use to being around rollers. good luck

I know several guys who tried to home birds in a new location and both of them lost all their kit birds.

My advice is to raise a round of squeakers first and fly them. Once they are flying for 30 minutes or 40 minutes, let one bird in with the kit each day. I would even put it in the same kit box the day they land and let it stay with the birds over night. Each day put in a new kit bird to home. Once your older birds go up high they will still remeber the old place and are likely to get lost. That is the way I would do it anyway. You could still tape the wings and let them get aquaited with the gound area but it looks very very different from above. I work on ladders sometimes and 30 feet off the ground can make a huge difference to me.

Pigeons have as good of eye sight as eagles but when they go up, the eyes will conflick with the brains memory of where home is and it will be confusing to them. The strongest incentive you have is their kitting instict. One at a time I would think would work good. You might want to try it. But the older birds would need to be hungry just like new birds you release. Just my thought and too many of them probably. LOL Bill C

I am one of those guys who lost most of the birds due to moving to a new house. You need to have a settling cage above the kit box for a month. Some of the birds went to the old house when I let them out. What a disaster. The masking tape is too light and the birds still can fly. If you use masking tape, then tape both wings. If you use electrical tape, you can just tape one wing.

No matter what you do, keep the Pit away from the birds. He will tear them up. It is the animal nature and you can’t change that.

Like Jay, That's how I always do it too one whole month in a wire cage will do it..its like retraining all over again but the birds are a little older this time..going through the 4 weeks cycle..the day you let them out make sure they are hungryyyyyyyy..and I would let out a few first to fly but keep some on top with the tape and when you want them to come down do what you always do ..whistle, shake feed can and toss some corn to the one on top of kit box so it will entice the flyers to land there when they see the others running after corn.... and about the dog get a kennel box and put him inside if your sister don't mind just for an hour..thats how I keep mine ..good luck..

Put a bell on the dog like the mice put a bell on the cat so they'll know when the cat is coming/moving.
