----------I have 11 2008 birds and 11 2009 squeakers i hatched from my loft that are about 16 weeks old. I've been flying this 22 birds kit for about 4 weeks now 6 days a week with one day off. They are kitting really well and all the 16 weeks old YB are now starting into thier roll flipping at least 3 to 4 times every 2 minutes or so. I am very please with all 22 birds performances thus far. The only slight problem is they are flying at least 60 minutes every flight sometimes as long as 70 minutes. Although they fly this long as soon as they land they trap right in less then 5 minutes after landing they are all in.Is this too long flying or should I leave well enough alone. If I want to shorten the flight time do I add milo to the feed? I'm thinking I should continue to feed the YB the 14% mix? any advice??? ~~~~~~Butch

Butch, No, that is not too long of a flight time. The mix feed I would keep until they are 5 or 6 months of age. They need protien when they are still young. If they are your only kit and if you have the time ,I would fly them twice a day. It sounds like your doing fine . Keep it up!! Mike

Thanks Mike I have about 12 more 09 young hatches that I will be training in the next two weeks and and 6 more 08's I will be putting up as well. I'm trying to develope two kits of 20. Once I have both kits flying well I will seperate in teams A team and B team. At this point I'm only able to fly routinely Monday thru Friday at 5:30pm because of work. I haven't had or seen any BOP thank God so I may cut a day of flying during the week add Sunday and fly them twice a day on Sat and Sunday. Once in the morning and once in the late afternoon. Thanks's for the input Mike I'll just leave everything as is and let them continue to fly the way they are as well as continue to feed them the same. Being that what I'm doing seems to be working out fine and 60 to 70 minutes flying isn't too long. I just started back with birds in August of last year and only was able to fly them for 3 months last year Bop shut me down. But I started flying again March 23rd and the birds from last year are really performing well. Again Thanks! ---------- ~~~~~~Butch

I agree with Mike. If I flew a 2nd time, I wouldn't do it when its hot and the birds come down panting. Better to leave them be at this age.

Butch sup? you doing great as Michael states.... I never stop giving them mix until 6 month of age.well the truth is that is what I give my birds anyway all the time.. but they need all that protien to developed good muscle and repairing from all that flying...what I do if I want to cut down the time is give a tablespoon or two less until I get them where I want them.because there was a time when the BOP was hitting me hard and I needed them down in 20 minute or 30..didn't want them out too long.. now they still getting their intake of protien but not as much as before but I would rest them for three to five days and feed them back up if they went down on weight on me..is a game when it comes to that part but its a game I love to play.. ---------- Ralph.

What's up Ralph. Thanks for the info. I'm really have a good time right now here in Cali. Skies are clear no sight of BOP in a least a month. 23 new hatches and 11 of the first and second rounds are performing so well. I'm going to putting up the 3rd rounds in a couple of weeks. Last year I put my birds on straight wheat but I've had them on 14% mix since November and it's working well so I'm just going to leave well enough alone and let them do what they do I see some real serious potential in these new hatches and am very pleased. ---------- ~~~~~~Butch
