----------Breeders returned to kit, does it work? tried it with 4 birds and all they do is fly low and short, land early or on wires and neighbors house, been going on for 3 weeks, is it a waste of time,I do not want to ruin the kit with learning bad habits, separated them from the kit but they do not perform at all any more? used to be excellent rollers, what would you do?

It takes a little time to get them back in the air. If they used to be kit birds, then it takes a while for them to get back in shape.

Pat, sounds to me like they lost their edge. Fly them on their own for several more weeks. Let them build back up and become flying birds again. Get them on a 50/50 wheat and milo mix and give nature time to work its magic. You don't mention how long they have been breeders, was it one season or for a few years? This could be a factor. Good luck!

Bob, way back when, I used to fly most of my breeders after they had a few rounds. That was a time when bop did not factor too much in the equation for my program. I think this helped me to hang on to my core stock and know which ones held up even after a couple years.

Its great if you can fly your breeders and experience minimal risk. But there is always the chance you might lose a really good one.

If you sat on your butt for a year how fast could you run a mile?

I`m doing the same. I had a few that didnt produce anything great in the loft,So I pulled them back out and started flying them this year. It took a few weeks for them to get back in the swing but a few reminded me why I put them in the loft to begin with. 3 of them are back in to try with different mates.
Give `em some time. They should be good now if they were good to begin with.

Kenny, I ran it in 4 minutes...LOL...

Pat, they are all different I have too pulled birds from the breeding loft and some take to the kit like they never left and others it takes them a couple of weeks to get it together again. I have only had one that never recouped from it and he had to then meet his maker. Good luck..

Pat 66 only add one at a time if they flew in your kits before they know the routine and they know they are doing wrong but if they have company they will be hard to change

When I introduce a breeder to the air again I lock them down in a pen where I can change their feed for a few days. Wheat/milo cut back.. then when they start getting hyper put them with a young bird kit.
