I do believe it. It has happened here too. We too often make excuses for ourselves and our birds. Some claim they "know their family well enough" to stock early. I ask how can you know your family well enough if you continually make early stock choices? There are few absolutes but we should practice the proven method not the exception.

My rule is they must fly through at least 1 adult moult and still be sound. Meaning they could be anywhere from 1 year to 20 months. I have had birds change after 2 yrs age, but the changes are generally minor.

I am reminded of this every time I cull one out of my best.

I have one very outstanding cock that I have raised.I have others almost as good but he is the best. He and his prodgy are my hopes and dreams. This will be his third year in the air. I'm still building and I will know the quality of my stock. There is only one way this will happen. So, he flies as do they all.

Scott, He flies. I will hate it if anything happens, but he flies, they all do. I've breed him with good results but now that I have my program established, I also have a three year in the air rule. I'm not suggesting to anyone that this is the only way, but it's my way.
