For some reason I am having trouble this year with my young birds staying in the nest.. They get feathered out about half way and they want to jump out of the nest. I have dusted the birds and nests for mites so I don't think thats the problem ?? I have two breeding lofts and they seam to be doing the same in both. A lot of the young stay in the nest. In fact most nestmates will stay and one will jump out. I have put them back time and again. But it seams like there are several that just don't want to stay ?? And a lot of them are to small to make it on their own..
Thanks for any Info. Lee ~ T-town-rollers

Lee, I see this occasionally as well. Maybe its because the little fella wants for food from the parents and they are not giving it to him and so the little fella has to chase after the parents. ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

Lee, I give the parents a new nest bowl even if I'm through breeding. It seems to keep the parents, "mostly the cock", feeding the fledglings. It just continues the cycle. Thom

Thanks for your advise. I am going to try changing those nestbowls and see if that works.
Thanks again Lee - T-town-rollers

I think Tony is correct. If the parrents are pumping them full, their crop is so heavy they can't move around and get out of the nest.

I noticed this in a couple of my nest boxes. When I lookd into it I noticed the cock was on chase with the hen and driving her to the nest ball. So maybe the cock kickd the young out to make room for his next set of eggs? Man this red check hen is banging eggs out left right and centre. But I dont mind cause she his a top bird so I have fosterd 4 of her eggs and now her young are getting on I have left her to sit a round. Good look Yours in roll harrison uk hull.

They are hungry! At 2 weeks of age I seem them trying to peak on seeds. Maybe you should feed the parents more?
