Scores not big(tough conditions for all) but fellowship and participation was our best ever! By far our funnest fly yet! 2009 Nevada World Cup Region Results May 2nd and 3rd Judge Marlon Garnett Tough falcon season losses and windy conditions leading to the fly and on fly day challenged the Nevada region and Las Vegas Roller Club group for the World Cup regional fly. Despite the challenges 9 flyers participated(matching our most participation to date) and flew 11 kits to support our region. Our condolences go out to Mike Banks as he was unable to participate due to the passing of his uncle. We thank Marlon Garnett for taking on the task of judging his fellow flyers as he was unable to fly himself. Marlon did a good job and was consistent from house to house. We continue to work hard and our region is slowly but surely moving forward and growing as we support each other and the roller hobby. We are becoming very competitive with good birds flown by each flyer. Weather and falcon attack made the scores lower then what the quality of the kits were. We thank the World Cup for allowing us to participate for the 2nd year as a new region and supporting us in our efforts to grow.
1. Don Macauley: 16 birds 5,5,5,5,8,5,5,7,8= 59 raw x 1.4 Q x 1.3 D=107.38 Qualifier Clear 10 mph wind. Came out active. Spooked by Falcon at 4 minutes. Circle tree and went back up at 10 minutes. Hit by Falcon at 13 minutes. 5 minute timeout. Regrouped for last 3 breaks before time.
2. Angel Ochoa: 20 birds 5,5,7,5,6,5,5,5,7,5,6= 61 raw x 1.2 Q x 1.3 D= 95.16 Clear 5- 10 mph. 2 out birds at times. Fairly active group. Went a little too high for about 5 minutes. Angel’s second time competing!
3. Chris Prince: 16 birds 6,6,5,5,7,6,5,6,6,5= 57 raw x 1.3 Q x 1.2 D= 88.92 15 mph plus winds, gusty. Birds flew low most the fly due to wind, gusts. Worked good for about 5 minutes as they gained some height but gone blown off. Wind timeout for 3 minutes as gusts increased. Chris had the birds ready as they worked through the wind and made time, landing at 30 minutes.
4. VictorioContreros: 20 birds 5,10,5,5,5= 40 raw x 1.5 Q x 1.4 D= 84 15 mph plus winds, gusty. Came out very active and were just getting warmed up but wind gusts took them too far off to judge. 5 minute weather timeout. Birds couldn’t make it back in time to score anymore. Nice group of birds that looked to be ready to break big and score big. Lot’s of potential. First time competing for Vic!
5. George Ruiz: 16 birds 5,5,5,5,6,5,5,6=42 raw x 1.4 Q x1.4 D= 82.32 15 mph plus winds. Gusty. Came out fairly active but got blown off. Short weather timeout taken. Birds came back to a decent height and tried but wind was too strong. Several nice birds in team. 6. Richard Macauley: 16 birds 5,5,5,7,6= 28 raw x 1.3 Q x 1.2 D= 43.68 10 mph wind. Birds flew fast and acted spooked. Settled down for awhile. Dad pinched too many birds for this team to stand much of a chance!
7. Don “Lucky” Lyle: 16 birds 5,6,7= 18 raw x 1.3 Q x 1.3 D= 30.42 10 – 15 mph wind. Birds were fairly active but out birds hurt score. Lucky put the team together with his leftover birds from heavy falcon season.
8. Don Macauley kit #2 20 birds 0 scorable breaks = 0 10 – 15 mph winds. Young bird team that was active but went a little high and out birds never allowed for breaks to count.
9. Chris Prince kit #2 16 birds DQ 15- 20 mph plus winds with gusts. Just too windy and birds landed.
10. Danny Ruiz 17 birds DQ 15 – 20 mph plus winds with gusts. Too windy. Birds down.
11. Richard Ruiz 16 birds DQ 15- 20 mph plus winds and gusts. Birds down. Just too windy.

13. Willie Sims DNF Had to leave town for personal reasons.
14. Glen Van Roekel DNF Too many predator losses.
