Hey all, I will be spending time with one of the greats next month when I head to Northern Cal for the convention. I plan on sitting Joe down in front of the Camera and throwing the questions at him. Thought I'd get some of your thoughts about what I could ask Joe about rollers, etc., Any takers just fire away or if you would rather send me a PM let me know. I have several on my list but if you'd like a question added, lets see what could become of this...those of you that know Joe will understand my reasoning for doing this...Please, don't let Joe know...and Joe if you on this site don't look, yet! love ya jb

My question to Joe would be. What have you been thinking about when you pair up your birds and why have you put certain pairs together?

I had asked Joe how he pairs his birds and he told me, " I never put the same pair down each year. I alway mix them up".

I have a feeling he would say, "Don't ask me why, I just do."

Joe could alway breed and fly good birds. He has natural talent with rollers and breeding. I think it is in his selection and breeding that makes the good birds he has flown. He is not selfish on advice but I dont know if he realizes how good of an birmingham beeder he is.

I would probably sit on his portch in the back yard, let out his homers to fly and sit the camera down and say I will turn it on in a few minutes (but actually turn it on so he will be relaxed). I think Joe Borges is a bit shy and might not like a camera on him with questions. But if you are just watching his birds and make it casual he would have a much better time. But you do what you want to. He is a very nice humble man. Bill C

Joe Kiser,Joe Borges, Sidlove,
These 2 guys are down to earth, they can relate with just about anyone.
Can ask how do the birds today compare to the birds of the past?
Also since they knew Pensom ask what they learned from Pensom?
Also have we improved the birmingham rollers?
Whats his overall view of what is present from the past.
Look for me ill ask with you.

Following up on Scott's thread....ask him if he has ever bred from non-performing siblings of good performers, and gotten good results; and whether or not he recommends the practice.

0221 I can tell you he bred mostly in open loft with only one or two pair in an individual pen.

Cliff I purchased some birds from Joe and he recomended me to breed from them and not risk flying them out since it was so late in the year and plus they were strong on the wing and he has a strong family of birds that are prone to sky out.

I am into the thrid year flying his birds from squeakers never flown out. My kit is better now than ever. I am seriously thinking of breeding from my A team right now. It would be breeding from all proven birds in the air. I flew 18 bird in the last fly and 12 were from Borges. One day I will have a kit of all Joes blood line plus a few from Kiser also.

Cliff I do not know if he ever bred from unflown birds himself? Good question, I dont think he ever had to.

Jason how the heck are you. Like Scott said, ask him where the fountain of youth is. Realistically I would like to know what he has done each year to keep the spark and drive going. Joe

JMU, doing good here in Southern Utah...Ya know I have given this thougtht of sitting Joe down a lot of thought. I realize that most of what I will be asking Joe is personal stuff (I consider Joe my second Dad)...and since I am stuck with his family til I die, and he will have forgotten more than I will ever know I must try and get some of it down mostly for me personally, but I know there is so much that can be passed on to others. I realize there have been dozens of others that have been interviewed for somewhat the same reasons...but to me Joe is the greatest, I never knew Pensom or Smith or Plona or Skidmore or other of the greats...He's definatley a HOFer to me!!!so I appreciate your considerations and thoughts...
