Ralph,
That's one of the microtransmitters shown in the chapter "Advanced Technology for Roller Competition".
It has a range of 1 to 2 kilometers.
I believe it is possible to electronically measure a rollers' speed and depth.

Paul just finish the book ..thx..it was a good read like Booker said "a break from the norm as far as books on rollers.
poetry..information..thoughts suggestions.and the way it is..
Paul those microtransmitters could cost an arm and leg and worth it too but the sad thing about it if a BOP takes your roller and he happens to be the one with the microtransmitters ..you know the pain you feel when he takes one of your best imagine that pain but twice....they would have to be flown when migration comes around and there is no BOP for those month.you know what I mean..

Booker,
Thanks a lot..!! Inspirational...!! That's just what I was trying to do...
It makes me very happy to hear that, and I am glad to know that some non-roller enthusiasts like the book as well. Of course I would like to take it to a larger audience..
It was good talking to you about your birds and congratulations on the birth of your daughter. Paloma is a beautiful middle name..!!

Ralph,
I am pretty sure that there are inexpensive microtransmitters. I found that they even use them to track migrating dragonflies..!!

I was just looking for the prices when I found this related info about using radar to interpret weather, birds and even insects!

"What else can a polarimetric radar detect?"

"In addition to providing information on cloud and precipitation particle size, shape, and ice density, polarimetric radar variables also exhibit unique signatures for many non-meteorological scatterers. Examples would be BIRDS and insects.... Radar measurements of birds and insects may also be of interest to other commercial and scientific disciplines. For example, birds are hazardous to aircraft. Therefore, radar measurements of birds might interest the aviation industry...... For weather radars, of course, birds and bugs are generally thought of as a data contamination. Fortunately, their unique polarimetric signatures generally make them easily identifiable in the data."

Hi Harrison,
Thanks....Seeing you say that is music to my eyes..!!
I have already sent some copies to the UK. The information is in the classified section of this site. Look up at the top of the green column at the right of this page, then open the books section to find my ad. You will have to adjust the screen to see the whole ad. Maybe I'll change it so that the payment info comes first.

Tony prefers this way. He has also inserted a hyperlink up at the beginning of this thread. I tried, but couldn't figure it out.
If you have trouble e-mail me. Click on my name to get my e-mail. (following Tony's rules)

Hi paul, I live in England and I ordered two books from you.

I am thoroughly enjoying the book, although I haven't had chance to read any of it this past week or so, I've been really busy. Life calms down a bit next week, so my nose shall be in it again.

Once again, thank you very much.
