Hi, I am new to rollers. I have found that they love red grit. In fact they would rather eat that then Pigeon feed. My question is, can they eat too much.? Should I just give them a little bit each time I feed them.? Or should I give them all they want.? any help will be very much appreciated. thank you Fred
They will only eat as much as they can handle. If you are not feeding your breeders pellets, I would keep it in whith the breeders. Flyers 1 time a week would be fine ---------- BIG WILLY TOPP FLIGHT/NCRC

They like the red grit becuase usually the red grit contains additiona minerals as well as oyster shells....the red is from the iron I think....but anyway....Big Willy hit the nail on the head....I usually throw a handfull of grit on top of my kit boxes and the birds will pick at it when they land and then trap. I do not put it in the kit boxes....becuase the kit birds are usually on the hungry side and have well...had way to much grit...breeders are fine with it in all the time.
Like Paul and Willy both said the birds will take what they need. As for kit birds they need it but not nearly as regularly and as paul said I usually toss a couple handfuls on top of the kit box and that is plenty. To much grit for the kit birds and they will want too much water. The salt in the grit will make them drink lots of water and thats not a good thing for kit birds. i leave grit in the breeding pen for breeders and let the have all they want for the young and i feel it up once about week and 1/2 to 2 weeks or even more time fly's with me and i keep grit in the fly pen and pull it about 35 days before fly date and every once in while throw a handful of grit in with feed during that 30 day fly time for compition
