---------- I just started flying my birds again first of April. I have 11 2008 birds I flew last year as squeakers they are doing really great flight time easy 60 minutes. I also have 14 2009 new hatches 4 months to 3 months old. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get most of the young in the air until they were like 14 weeks because this is my first year breeding and I started breeding too early and the hawks were still around fiece so I refused to let the young out. Although I didn't get the young up until 14 and 11 weeks 13 of them are flying and kitting just as good as my 2008 from last year. Problem is I have one of them that's 4 months rolls really nice but only flies for 10 minutes and he's like breathing all hard with his beak open. then there's three more 1 hen who I go a couple of rounds off of and now decided to fly her out. She's a 2008 but never really flew much last year as well as 2 others which pretty much fly only for ten minutes. I have cut back on these 4 birds food for the last week to maybe a table spoon and I fly them together first then again after they trap I fly my other two kits. I'm getting a bit frustrated with these 4 they are rolling pretty good but just will not stay up long. I refuse to fly them with my B kit of young because they surely will bring them down early. Out of two kits one of 11 birds and 1 of 14 birds these 4 I feel I'm wasting time on and thinking about just getting rid of them even though they definitely have potential on the roll they just don't fly high or long enough. What can I do to get them to fly longer or have I blew it with these 4 for not flying them when they were squeakers?? Again 1 is 4 months 1 is about a year and the other two are about 7 months.

Butch,
Sounds like they just need some more conditioning. Keep flying them and I think you will see their fly time lengthen.

Butch sound like conditioning like Joe stated because their beaks tells the story..what I would suggest is so that they don't bring the other rollers down with them is leave them with the team but at night separate them and hold them in and toss them or chase them up when the other birds aleady had their fly and are coming lower as of thinking of coming down them let them fly with the team another ten to 14 minutes and each day increasing the time .now if 1 or 2 come back down fast let them in and toss them up again but quickly call the gang down so he understand he eats only if he flys and comes down with the team..good luck,..

Thanks guys got 15 mins from them yesterday. Had to chase them back up for another 5 mins. Normally I fly them first, When they trap I remove them from the kit in a cage by themselves. Then I fly B kit once B kit trap I Fly A team and feed thre B team while the A team is flying. Once A team trap I feed them and I throw these 4 out again and let them fly which is usually another 5 mins. I letr them trap then I give them a table spoon only of wheat. The other birds have pretty much ate so these 4 are last eating. Ralph I think today I'm going to try your method. I'll toss them up 15 mins before my B team come down to see if they will follow the kit. These 4 birds will go up about 100 feet and roll they just don't seem to have the stamina to go up and stay up longer right now. But I guess that's my job as coach train them. LOL Thanks guys for all your help.

Newbie 08 ~ I have some 2009 birds that were doing the same. I was about ready to give up on them.. But I did like you cut back on the feed and kept at it !! And now they are flying and rolling real good. And they
fly with the kit too. They stay up about 30 to 45 minutes. So keep with it and don't give up.

Let me know how it turns out should take about two to three days ..sometimes when you have all four flying together they build a bond with each other .one comes down another follows and so forth the next one,or one breaks away fly on its own the other follows so you might have to train one at a time. when one is good ...next.. .this way you might find out who is really the best learner and who isn't....good luck.Butch..
