At the age of around 11 I was introduced to Rollers by a friend who's uncle kept them in his yard. I still remember that first Blue Bar Badge that kick started a life long love affair... Ronnie. ---------- Promoting The Birmingham Roller The Greatest Aerial Acrobat!

Must of been around 1975 or so, I was around 10 when I found a commie squab on a window seal. This bird was awesome, it would follow me wherever I went. If I was in the house, it would be on the window seal of the room I was in. He would fly over my head all the way to the bus stop every morning then fly over the bus for a ways as we headed for school. He would be back there when I was getting off in the evenings. Pretty kool till one day he dissappeared. My grandad new I was upset and about a week later, he showed up with 6 rollers in a box! I was in hog-heaven!!! ---------- Val

Like most I had rollers as a kid. I always said once I have a yard I would get some pigeons again. My wife quit work when my second son was born and wanted a computer so she could take college classes at home. So we got a computer. I wondered what can I do with this. I began searching out organic gardening. Eschotology, Bible sudies from Family Radio and put in pigeons in the search one day. Once I read about rollers I sought out to get some.
I remember my first comp fly I went to. When I saw the birds roll I remeber saying, WOW! WOW! everytime I saw a break. The guys were silent except me saying WOW!... Finally I stopped saying that.
Soon I had my first pairs and I expect to have roller until I die or the world ends, which ever comes first. Bill C

My first birds were just ol commons. I new an older kid who use to catch them at night from under an old bridge. Thats been 55 years ago. My dad saw how much I liked them and what good care I took of them. So he suprise me whit 3 pair of rollers. There was an old man who lived a few blks. from me that raised and sold rollers. He had a real fancy loft and I remember he had a sign across the front of the building. Fireballs and no foolin !! He sold young birds for $1.00 each or 6 birds for $5.00. I was crazy over pigeons from then on. And have had them ever since. And that all started back in 1953

When I was around 6 years old my brothers friend kept West England Tumblers and he was having trouble with cats big time so untill he had sorted the problem they brought the birds to my mums garden. I use to watch the birds every day and realy enjoyed them. When the birds whent back I askd my brother if we could get some and he said no. I came home from school and remember they was a rabbit hutch in the garden. When I lookd in it they was a little black and white pigeon and i now no it to be a black pide birmingham roller. I had him for about 2 weeks and use to let him out and lock him up on the night. Then one day he never come home. He had made friends with the local wild pigeons and use to sit on the roof with them all day then on the night go to the old bell tower on the top of the school. He was around for about 3 years and I cried my eyes out when one day he never come. From then on I forgot about pigeons untill I was about 15 and then its been a big part of my life since then on. I couldnt imagen getting by my days with out having to go sort my rollers out. Thats how I come to get into birmingham rollers. Thank you for reading. Yours in roll Harrison UK HULL.

I grew up in L.A. where just about everyone had rollers. At least in my neighborhood. It was just the thing to do. I use to want the real deep ones and had some. I had alot of birds from Eddy Scott. I can remember his white birds they were a site to see (DEEP). I also had Paul Gomez birds (FAST) . My best friend Timm turned me on to Paul what a great deed. Thanks Timm ---------- BIG WILLY TOPP FLIGHT/NCRC

Hey Will, Thanks a lot for the compliment. How have the birds been doing? I know you had said that you had some bad luck. I hope it is better now. Timm had some tough luck where he is. But he'll be alright. My nephew Jamel told me. I have been in touch with both of them. Paul
